Lou wasn't gonna let her thoughts wander over to the male side of the profession. That hit too many confusing places because of Chance. But so far the topic hadn't diverted that way and she was content to keep it that way. Without that to bring it down, the conversation was pretty damn funny. She wondered what else she could throw into the mix.
Free hugs? "Oh, no," she said in a teasingly serious tone that became more and more overtly joking as she went on. "I never promised anyone free hugs. It's in the girl codex. Those kinds of things definitely come with some kind of a cost. There's even an index system so we know just what kind of devious catch to employ. It gets briefed during those meetings we have when we all go hang out in the bathroom together."
For brief spans of time Lou could play at being a girly-girl but never long enough to actually maintain the kinds of friendships people who grew up together had. That personal knowledge added a little bit of snark to her tone as she drew her picture of a society of secret women-only rules. If there were such a thing, she'd be the last to know.
