"I may take you up on the cereal a little later." She hated to be an inconvenience but she knew that she would get hungry soon. It was a matter of courtesy that she put it off. She felt like she had more right to anything that she helped bake than food he hadn't expected to provide for anyone. "You coulda fooled me about not expecting company. Looks like you've got all the ingredients to make a cake. Or have you just been building up an emergency supplies in case there's a sudden influx of birthdays?"
Lucy surveyed the stock with a critical eye. Not all were brands she'd buy, but they were items they could work with. "Why don't we set up the kitchen stuff, just to make sure we've got a game plan and then turn on the movie?" That way they could do any talking before the movie. The mixing could be done over the first part of the movie when things were moving slower. She'd always liked the second half best.
"Would a white cake be okay or were you thinking something fancier?" A white cake would be pretty simple. Sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla, flour, baking powder, and milk. If on the off chance he happened to have powdered sugar and rum, she could show him a simple recipe for home-made frosting.
