"The car's fine." She justified so much to herself by trying to keep it to only lies of omission. "It's like you put years back on her." She held up a hand before he could say anything about slacking about getting a new one. "I know, I know. I'm still in the market. But she's doing alright. I'll get a couple of the family to come back and pick her up before tonight." It sucked to ask him but Dan was a good enough guy that, so long as Lou didn't pull any dramatics, he might not even report her to her mother.
Just the thought of the woman made Lou's head throb worse. Their relationship was such a mess. But they were family. They'd have each other's backs when the chips were down. It was all just a matter of how much that would cost later. Her mom never forgot any of her mistakes.
Lou leaned against the door as close as she could without leaving smudge marks. The cold by the window helped until she could get a couple Advil or something stronger and the view was still really nice. She liked it a lot out here. She'd spend a lot more time out here in the summer when over-protective sheriffs wouldn't feel the need to stop her.
