The thing was, Lucy was only joking about The Experience as far as it came to the context of going tonight. It was an empty, hollow feeling, but one that differed from the everyday. So long as the music was loud enough and the drinks strong enough, nothing mattered while she was there. Sure, she hadn't frequented it as much, petering out to no visits at all over the last couple of months, but she'd gone more than her fair share of times. What else was there to do? Sit around and play good little girl? She didn't think so. Like he had The Cellar, she had The Experience.
She couldn't tell if he was just being polite or really offering. He'd said he didn't have plans, but then, he'd also said he had an early morning; usually that translated to GTFO, so she hesitated. Even if he were 100, though, it would be too early to go to bed now. If her brain weren't so caught up in trying to perform an English-to-Lou translation, she might have suggested a movie if he had one. She was certain that would be safe with Gus.
She looked down, the realization dawning on her that she'd taken a cookie but not finished eating it. "Um. Sure, if that's ok," she said because it would look weird if she didn't at least finish what she was eating. That and it would go well with a little more hot chocolate.
Lou wasn't someone who was at all opposed to a beer with lunch; some days merited it. But it didn't occur to her that that was included in the vague offer of 'something else.'
She almost went to bring up another topic, but she was still trying to read if he wanted her to clear out. It was on the tip of her tongue to ask him if he would be going to any of the high school games this semester.
