It was Gus's cruiser with the star on the side that she saw first, nicking a parking space that someone had just vacated, and he hurried from his car into Al's diner to expose himself to the cold as little as possible. It would get less brutal soon, but right now it still felt like winter would never end. And it was always easy to spot Grace - he smiled and waved to her, pulling off his hat and gloves and lifting his sunglasses off his face.
"Hey, shorty," he said, sliding into the booth she'd chosen, "How's school going?"
