Lucy's focus was still going back and forth from Tall Dark and Security and the guy howling on the ground, but she let Justice move her forward and away as quickly as she wanted. Adrenaline had done a lot to clear her thoughts but her reactions were still slow from her long night. She didn't feel the sense of urgency to leave that the other woman was showing, but Lou didn't want to get in trouble with the law either. She wasn't sure Gus would see her actions on the up and up. As soon as that thought coalesced, she matched Justice's speed and hurried on.
With no other immediate obstacle to occupy her mind, guilt started to eat away at her. She wasn't so naive to believe that going out on her own was the greatest idea, but it shouldn't have been quite this bad either. She didn't know how much Justice was going to blame her. Lucy didn't think it looked good given what she'd been wearing, but she could have sworn she hadn't behaved that badly.
Preemptive apologies, she'd learned long ago, took some of the sting out of confrontations. It was better if people didn't have high expectations of her to begin with; then she couldn't let them down. She really didn't want to have let Justice down. She almost wished the other woman hadn't been there. She would have faced the consequences on her own, but she'd be the only one to know if that happened.
"I'm sorry," she said, voice harsh from fear of all the things that could have gone, and still could go, wrong. See? She didn't need the lecture, she pleaded silently. She already knew she'd fucked up. Lou didn't even bother to ask Justice where they were going. She just followed as long as the other woman let her.
