Conor had known the question would be asked. It was hanging in the air from the moment she'd come into the room. Other words had taken precedence, his wounds had, but eventually he knew she'd seek to know the why.
While showering Conor debated how to answer it.
He still hadn't settled on one particular reason.
"Some things don't change." Conor replied; handing her the bandages as she approached and allowing her to take over what he had started. With his hand free he took up the shot; giving a vague salute with it before downing the contents in a quick swallow.
The shallow burn was soothing. Something familiar in the haze.
Conor remained silent for a moment; watching her as she worked. Many of the smaller cuts had begun to heal and even the bruising was less intense than it had been. But there were silver wounds that still bled freely, eagerly. With that in his system his healing would be slowed for days yet.
Had he been challenged again...it was questionable how well that fight would have gone for him.
"Because it needed to be done." Conor finally replied in a tone that said the statement was everything and yet somehow nothing at the same time. "Much has been put off due to..." he laughed slightly; a vaguely harsh thing that held no mirth. "...chaos as of late. The vote included." it had been delayed too long. Set aside while other matters were seen to. Resulting in further rifts rather than less of ones.
"I could say that it was for the loss of life. To lose family and to gain family. To find solace in that." and that too, was true.
"And I could honestly state that for you to be included in what's to come next tonight, you had need to be pack." Pack, and pack alone, would see to the funeral. To the remembrance of the man they'd lost. Those in trial, those just friends, they were not included in that.
"Yet, if I am to be truthful to myself." Conor continued "It is because I needed it to be done." he sighed; brushing fingers light against her cheek. "I needed to know if I had just fought for a pack that I was going to have to contemplate leaving. I needed to know if I could have you stand at my side. Right as you are now." he needed her to be pack. For the uncertainty to be lifted.
