I like it in the city when two worlds collide Who: Anais and Jared When: Wednesday, July 23rd, late night Where: City streets, cemetery Summary: A walk home leads to another run in Warnings/Rating: Language, possibly Status: Complete
As the evening drew on it brought about a steady decline in the population of the bar in which Anais found herself. It was a weekday after all and for many it was time to return to their homes for a good night’s rest so they could get right back up tomorrow morning. For Anais this was not the case as the next day was hers to do with as she pleased. Seeing the crowd thinning, however, she felt it was probably best to depart herself even if her only urge was to stay out as long as she could, possibly to even see the sun come up that morning as well. Glancing down at the watch on her arm she saw she had some time to kill and could think of nothing better to do than take a walk. It wasn’t like she owned a car anyway, so she also didn’t have much of a choice but to walk.
Leaving the bar, Anais smiled to herself as she breathed in the smell of fresh rain and saw the cloudy night sky. It had been so long since she had truly let herself enjoy being out at night that still when she saw it was dark around her she smiled. As much as she still hated him for it, in the end forcing her to see herself for what she was lifted a great burden from her. She still stuck to a mostly human schedule, as she did have a job, but whenever she could she was staying out later and later. If she made it to sunrise that morning it would be the first one viewed outdoors in a long while. Just the thought had her excited and anxious as she started her walk down the street, and almost immediately began to be rained upon.
She had barely gotten even four feet from the bar when suddenly the downpour began and she was running for cover, which was fairly difficult in her heels. Any other time she wouldn’t really care but this evening she happened to be dressed in one of her handmade dresses, a black bandage dress that now was clinging to her even more than it had been before, thank goodness it wasn't white. By the time she reached the cover of an awning her previously wavy hair was now a heavy with rain, sticking to her face and she had almost twisted her ankle running in her heels. Slipping them off and standing there in bare feet, Anais waited for the rain to at least taper off if not stop completely so she could continue walking. As much as the rain was a pain in the ass, it wasn’t going to stop her from making the most of this evening, she would just head toward a park and use the shade of trees instead of staying exposed on the streets.
Once the rain slowed, she continued her walk, this time barefoot and headed toward the first park she could find. She had been right about to enter it when her ears picked up a noise that sounded like someone groaning. At first she was going to ignore it but it sounded more and more like whomever it was, might have been hurt or possibly even dying. Looking down at herself she really wasn’t dressed to be a hero, nor should she have taken the risk but still couldn’t force herself to ignore it either. There was a difference between trying to be a superhero and simply being decent and she felt at the very least if the person was in danger she could summon the authorities and not actually have to be involved.
Making a rash decision, Anais checked to make sure no one was around before she climbed the tree that was in front of her. She didn’t know how the idea came to her to use the trees for travel aside from a desire to do something she never had before and the want to remain unseen. Wedging her heels in a crevice as reminder to come back when all this was over, she hiked up her dress slightly and leapt from the tree she was in to one a few feet away, laughing as she landed softly on the branch, now she really felt like a kitty. Thank god no one could hear her thoughts or she’d never live that down.
Following the sound drew her farther and farther from the park but that was now far from her mind. Now she was determined to find the sound of the groans and hope whomever was making them wasn’t critically injured. Reaching the end of her tree line, she glanced around once more before jumping back down to the ground only to find herself face to face with the gate of a cemetery, the source of the noise.
