I know irrational prejudice when I see it. What my husband's associates think of me is their business. The society I married into is one very different from what I'm used to, and they were always going to view me as an interloper. It was a bit of a scandal, actually.
I'm not a Shaper because I come from modern day America, where there's no such thing as Shaping, rather than the Ashen Isles, where there is. It's an interdimensional marriage. Becoming a Shaper isn't something I could just take up now -- I would have to have studied it from childhood.
