Shaking her head and wiping away her tears, she touched his cheek. "I needed the space." She leaned forward to brush her lips against his. "I didn't know how to react to it." She dragged a shaking hand through her hair and laughed as she said, "I mean, take a look at my family. Part of me was thinkin' it's for the best, and then I'd feel like shit for thinkin' that in the first place."
She shook her head, still sniffling but not sobbing - which was a welcome change for her. "I needed the time to get my head straight."
