"You're here doing what needs to be done, Scott, there's nothing wrong with that." Adelaide reassured, resting her hands in her lap again. "Your presence here is important, even if you don't feel that way. For those students that were here before, you're a sign of normality, something that they recognise and understand and trust."
She tilted her head, "Of course it's going to bother you. We don't expect things to change when we go away. We certainly don't expect them to change as much as they have and that's thrown you. You're suddenly not the man in charge, and since all the time you were here you've been being groomed to take over as headmaster, suddenly having that purpose ripped out from under you's bound to make you feel a little shaky on the ground."
It was a difficult thing to suggest options for, as to what Scott could do. "You need to find where your position is here, even if it's not the highly regarded one that you held before. You need to remember you're just as important as Ms Munroe and Logan. But the executive decisions do sit in their hands. So find some other way to be of help. Some of the students are going to need mentoring, guidance that I can't offer them. That'll be a start for you, perhaps?"
