Tilting his head, he looked at her, his features unreadable as he processed what she said.
She hadn't said anything that he already didn't know but still. It was different to hear it from someone else's mouth.
"Basically. Gold star for you." With a sigh, he raked a hand through his hair, and took the proffered cookie. Obviously she'd noticed his coping mechanism; nothing got past her. Picking at it, he sighed again.
"I just couldn't be here. At all. And have constant reminders of what went wrong, and of their deaths. I needed to leave and I jumped at this opportunity without thinking about it." He gave his head a shake. "But I always did it with the knowledge that I had somewhere else to go. Now, I'm here but doing what? I don't make the decisions anymore."
He gave a dry laugh. "Jubilee asked Ro and Logan for permission for something the other day. It shouldn't have bothered me that she didn't ask me, but it did. It really did, Ada. And I hate that I feel this little."
