A slow day at the bakery meant that Darcy could take a break from baking for awhile. The store hadn't really even managed to sell much of the stock that was in the cases already, and they were still fresh enough that they'd be delicious with coffee or as a mid-afternoon snack. Baking more cakes or cookies meant lurking in the hot back room with the ovens, and at this point, it would be wasteful. Quinn had taught her that it was a bad idea to just make more stock blindly without taking inventory of what was left over. Things had to be disposed of at the end of the day, and what a waste that would be.
Darcy went up to the front of the store. They still hadn't managed to find a replacement cashier, so she could hang out near the in-house iPod speaker deck that played through the overhead system. As long as the stuff she chose to play wasn't thrash metal or laden with curses, Quinn didn't mind what she chose, so Darcy turned it to a playlist that was pretty Bon Iver heavy and decided to doodle on the back of one of the bright orange catering brochures. She drew a line of carrots that had legs, arms, and little faces, marching them across the bottom edge of the paper and turning to climb up the adjoining edge.
She'd text someone if she had anyone to text, but she didn't, so she was just stuck with the quiet and the alone-ness while Quinn did some paperwork in the back. Not that her boss was much of a conversationalist, anyway.
