WHO: Lily Evans, Harry Potter WHAT: A rescue because Miss Evans cannot just sit on her bum while her son is captured WHEN: Whenever Harry gets around to tell her where he is. So Thursday the 21. WHERE: Hogwarts->Honeydukes->Hogwarts RATING/STATUS: PG/Incomplete
Ever since Dumbledore had sent that Patronus on Saturday, interrupting her dinner with James, Lily had been frantic. Death Eaters had taken over Hogsmeade, and there were children from the school there! In near-blind panic, she'd scribbled her son a note, demanding to know where he was, if he was alright, and it was over 36 hours later that she'd heard from him. The overdue reply only served to confirm her suspicions that he'd been captured, even though he said he was alright. She'd asked him multiple times if he knew where he was, so that she and James might be able to provide an escape for him and any others around him, but further silence on his end made her more and more frantic. Using James' invisibility cloak, the two of them had snuck in to Honeydukes and through the tunnel into the school, where Lily spent the next several days pacing and trying to come up with a plan of attack. She was like a woman possessed; all these weeks of pretending like her son's rejection of her didn't matter, that she didn't care, that she wasn't ready to be a mum anyway were quickly and easily washed away in her fear for him, and no amount of comfort from James could console her.
And finally, when she thought she was going to go crazy, a breakthrough. Harry was in the cellar of Honeydukes, and he knew it. He must have known that writing such an entry where she could read it would mean he'd get out, because she wanted him safe and would let nothing get in her way of that. About three seconds after reading the entry, just long enough for it to sink in, Lily quickly penned a reply notifying him of his impending rescue, wherein she immediatly jumped up from where she was and went tearing through the school to find James, but she couldn't find him. Where was he? She was losing valuable time, so she just ran to Dumbledore's office to tell him where she was going, and asked him to let James know where she was. And if she wasn't back in an hour, he was to come looking for her.
Lily ran back to the Room of Requirement to grab James' cloak, which she was absolutely positive he would not protest. A stitch in her side prevented her from running to the statue that led down into the passageway to Honeydukes, so she walked as quickly as she could, opened the passageway, and made her way down the dark tunnel, her wand lit.
