In Between

"How was it?" Tom asked, picking up Katie's empty plate from the bar. Most people sat at tables when they were eating at the Leaky, but Katie preferred to sit at the bar, unless she was with a group. She could chat with Tom, who always had interesting tales to tell, and often she struck up conversations with new and interesting people.

"Delicious as usual," she replied with a grin, patting her stomach. "Your fish & chips always hit the spot."

"D'you want to settle up now?" He asked, wiping down the bar where she'd spilled vinegar.

"Nah. Bring me another lager, would ya? I feel like lingering," she said, pushing her empty glass across the bar. Tom filled her glass and slid it back. She smiled and nodded her thanks, taking a long sip before she shifted on her stool to look around. She wondered who she'd meet tonight.
