Muriel let him pull her close, closing her eyes for a moment as his breath rattled out of him. She never could guess when the memories were going to hit him hard, but she could always tell when they did.
"You are," she told him. "He left all of those ideas for you. He's still contributing."
Not the same, she knew, but there it was.
"People's ideas outlive them all the time. My father-in-law died before most of the modern laws concerning goblin rights were passed, but he set them in motion. Fred's ideas are going to keep making people smile for a long time. Doesn't make it any easier, when you're missing them, but it's a nice idea. A good thing to see."
