very nice
Who: Eily and Ben
Where: Ben's place
When: late!
Ben had everything set up like he wanted it. He even had the candles on the table, like a real date. He was lucky he still had some, even if they were a little nubbly and half melted already, but he didn’t care. It was the ambiance that mattered.
The cherry pie was placed on a plate, looking prestigious on the counter as Ben stirred the pasta in the pot. It wouldn’t be long now until it was finished and he could start plating it for Eily before she even got here.
Eily had had a few beers before she got there. Mostly because she was hugely upset over tons of things. She'd talked to Aidan, and she was a little calmer, though not back to her normal self. But! She was seeing Ben. Because Ben was awesome, and she wanted to forget everything else, and spend time with his handsome, warm, friendly, sweet self.
When she got to his door, she drew in a deep breath, let it out slowly, then knocked.
The sound of the knock got him to step away from putting pasta and sauce in respective bowls and basically jog to the door. He didn't hesitate to open it and greet her with a bright smile. It had really been too long since he'd been so happy to see someone. Eily was gorgeous and bright, witty and inciting and Ben couldn't think of anyone else he'd rather be spending dinner with. "Hey there. Glad you're here. Come inside," He said, stepping to the side.
She stepped in, immediately feeling a bit better. Yep. He was going to be a great distraction, it was working already. So was the smell of awesome pasta. "Oh god, it smells so good!" she said, walking in. "How are you?" she asked, hoping that he'd have stuff to regale her with.
"I am good, very good now that you're here. I have a surprise for you," He said, starting them into the kitchen with a big grin on his face. Heading to the counter, he picked up a wrapped bundle and pushed off the top of the towels, producing the cherry pie inside. "We're eating like kings tonight."
"Another surprise? You're just full of them aren't you?" Eily asked, laughing. She gasped at the reveal. "Oh! God you're just awesome!" She squeed, and bounced on her feet slightly, before she landed a kiss on his lips, because she couldn't not.
He about dropped the pie, which would have been terrible, but he managed to reign it in and shift the pie to one hand. His other hand went to keep Eily close, pressed against the small of her back as he returned the kiss. Because if she couldn't not kiss him, he definitely couldn't not kiss her back.
She drew it out a little then let go, stepping back enough to grin at him. “Thank you.” she told him, before they even got to eat anything, or even quite get her in the door properly. But man it was such a sweet thing. The longer she spent time with Ben the more she thought he was great. Sweet, nice, thoughtful, giving...it was a full package, that was for damn sure.
Ben was ecstatic. She seemed to really love the pie and if he was going to get a kiss like that every time he got her a pie, he’d be stocking up on pies for sure. Smiling, he shifted a little to put the pie down safely on the counter and then came back to her, using his now free hand to tuck some hair behind her ear. “Anything to see that smile,” He promised. “Hopefully this pasta gets a smile like that too, but I think the pie was the big seller.”
"Pie is pretty much where it's at." Eily said. "I'm sure the pasta will too. Ah, this is just nice. I can't remember the last time someone put together dinner for me." she admitted. Generally she was the one cooking.
Ben grinned a little, putting his hands on her shoulders and turning her gently to guide her to the small, fold-up table he had as his dining room table. It could seat four people and he'd tried to make it nicer by covering the black-covered foam with a white sheet, but it still seemed a little strange to him. "Well, if you come over more often, I would be happy to cook you this same meal all the time," He joked. Pulling out her chair, he grinned again and said, "Madam."
Eily laughed. "So this is your beginning and end of culinary talent?" she asked. "I could come over and cook for you," she suggested. "Though I'm not promising I'm awesome." she continued. When she sat, she just smiled, liking how all of this felt. Just...nice.
"Hey, I did warn you that I couldn't cook more than pasta," Ben said, bringing the plates over and then moving to sit in his own seat. Hopefully it was decent and not undercooked or overcooked or anything that would be unappetizing. "Though I'm sure you're a better cook than me, I wouldn't be opposed to helping you out in the kitchen. I can cut things. Might be fun." That and cooking was interactive, it was physical, and he could maybe even get Eily to show him the proper way to cut something, which might mean her arms would be around him. All in all, Ben was very in favor of this.
"Sounds great." Eily told him with a smile. Then she dug in, and grinned. "Oh this is really good!" she said. "I love it!" she told him. And certainly she would have said that even if it hadn't been super great, but it happened to be quite good. She was happy with it, anyways. It was very likely the best pasta she'd had in ages.
