“It’s all kind of crazy,” Nic said, thinking of how bizarre both their lives had gotten as of late. Things were so much easier when his days were spent drinking in the pub because there was nothing else better to do. “I really hope we’re over prepared here.”
Eily took another drink, and nodded. "Oh my god so do I." she said, very quietly. She didn't want anyone to overhear that. But she was one hundred percent with Nic there. She could play it all tough, and like everything would be okay, but that didn't mean she wasn't freaking out inside on some level. Even more so now that things seemed to be crumbling around her.
“We’re prepared for the worst case scenario, right? There’s always a chance that we’ll get past this and it’ll have been for nothing, completely unnecessary,” Nic said quietly, but hopefully. He just couldn’t picture Micah as the monster Micah thought he would turn into. He just couldn’t. “Either way, I say we catch a couple of beers when this is all said and done.”
Nodding, Eily really desperately clung to that. God, that needed to happen. It needed to be okay. It felt a lot like she couldn't breathe until the day after tomorrow. "And you are so on, you'll have to watch me for alcohol poisoning." she told him with a smile, though it was weak at best. She did mean it though, that a beer with him sounded great and she wanted to do that.
“Sounds like a deal,” Nic said, giving her a small smile. He understood her fear, but he was doing his best not to let it eat him alive. If he thought about it too much, he’d be useless, too worried to function. All they had to do was get through tomorrow night. Forty-eight more hours and this would all be behind them.
