Mickey and Jack
Someone had hit a snag in their cage and Mickey had left Aidan to help fix it, though it had required a minor redesign, they were working again. He’d gone back to his drawings, going over them again, verifying that everything was as sturdy as he wanted it to be, just to be safe. He was hoping it didn’t come down to it, but he knew better than to get his hopes up that this would be a peaceful thing.
Jack was helping. He'd been there since far earlier in the day, and had been working nonstop since. He had to stop for a few to get water, however, and did so, splashing some over himself before he took a long drink, eyes on Mickey who was nearby. Glancing around quickly, he headed over. "You call her yet?"
“Huh?” Mickey looked up confused, too lost in his work to realize who was even speaking to him at first. For a moment he just blinked at Jack, wondering more why he was wet than what he was asking. “Who?”
"Lily." he answered. "Have you contacted her?" He took another drink of water, wishing he didn't feel overheated. But then again, he'd felt overheated since he'd woken up from the coma. Apparently that was a thing now, annoying as it was.
This was happening. Somehow, Jack already knew. Mickey had to guess Mannix might know too, which he guessed wasn’t going to go over well. “I was thinking about it. But I’ve been here all day.”
"You should. I know she'd like that." Jack told Mickey. It was a sentiment he was guessing Mickey would find surprising, considering the D-bagness of it all. But at the end of the day, Jack still thought that Mickey would never be the type to hit a girl. Especially not one he was with. He seemed like a nicer caliber of man than Lily had ever liked, and he wanted Mickey to get in there before Lance could sniff around more thoroughly.
Mickey raised one eyebrow, staring at Jack. “You...want me to?” That was not at all what he would have expected. Sure, Jack probably wasn’t all that bad, but Mickey’s introduction to Jack had been laden with drunk Mannix and then a rope and an uncomfortable vampire feeding. He’d just assumed they weren’t on the best of terms.
"Yep. And better get on that sooner than later." Jack told him. "There's someone else who she smiled about when talking about you two, and I don't like that guy. But I wouldn't want to have to make him disappear forever and ever or anything either. It's a lot of hassle. It'd be far easier if you just stepped up, and I didn't have to worry about her hooking up with another psycho deadbeat."
Mickey opened his mouth to respond then realized he didn’t have anywhere to start. “Not sure I’m up for another game of fighting for the girl with another guy who’s not playing fair,” he said shaking his head. He hadn’t realized there was someone else in the picture, though he supposed that wasn’t a surprise. “That’s not even getting into you making people disappear and how unsettling that is.”
"...okay, you dumping your purse out there not withstanding, and your playground mentality completely ignored, she likes you. Enough to be all blushy and cute about it." he said. "You're the first guy I've ever even remotely approved of." he added, so Mickey might latch onto the significance of this conversation.
Did this guy not realized he was an ass? Maybe he did. He’d said that when Mickey first met him. He was going to say something, but Lily being blushy and cute about him caught his attention and he opted not to give it back in return. He wasn’t really that guy anyway. “I’d planned on calling her, after all this,” he waved towards what they were working on. “This came first.” Then the complicated prospect of meeting someone else and just what that meant for him. That could come later. “I do want to see her again.”
Nodding in approval, Jack gave Mickey a smile. "Good." he said. "Please do. She deserves a guy like I'm betting you are." he said. If they did hook up, he could actually relax a little, he figured. Mickey seemed intense, and Lily liked intense guys. He just didn't seem abusive. And that was the key. So, intense and not abusive equalled someone who got Jack's approval. Hell, his having issues probably even helped, so Lily could ‘fix’ shit.
