good impressions
Who: Eily and Ben
Where: the bar/ out and about
When: evening
Eily was at the bar, and she’d texted Ben to meet her there. Sure, she was technically working, but she wasn’t alone, and she was just going to make time. Angelo could man the bar while she got her flirt on. Which she was greatly looking forward to. With everything going on? She desperately needed to get her mind off of things. When she spotted him, she grinned and waved, cracking a beer for him before he even got to her.
He'd found something in his stash that he thought she might like. It wasn't much, but it was something, and he could have sold it but he thought the smarter thing to do would be to bring it with him to this meeting.
Coming up to the bar, he grinned as he saw her and looked over at the beer as well. "Just prepared as all get-out, aren't you. You know I don't need to be drunk to want to talk to you, right?" He teased.
"I like to cut to the heart of things." Eily told him. And man...he was super handsome. Just as handsome as she'd thought he was, even if she had half convinced herself it was the knock to the head talking. "And hey, it's usually the better way to go. People can get drunk then think I'm clever and exciting." she laughed.
"Well, if anyone needs to get drunk to think you're clever and exciting, they're straight up idiots." Ben grinned a little as he reached into his pocket and put a small bundle of cloth, a red neck scarf, on the table. "Open it up."
Eily laughed, then blinked, surprised. "You got me something?" she asked, clearly tickled by that. Then she reached out, grinning as she opened her gift. It was a gorgeous hair pin. Something she hadn't seen since since before everything went to hell. Her smile softened, as she picked it up and turned it in her fingers, the little butterfly at the end of it catching the light. "Wow," she said, truly impressed. It was obvious that she really loved it, she was actually touched, even. Then she abruptly leaned over the bar, grabbed the back of his neck, and gave him a smooch. Because this gift deserved one.
Oh. Lucky Ben, he had a small stash of things like this saved up just waiting for the right person, and if he was going to get a kiss for each one he thought that was more than an even trade. He kissed her back and when it ended, he was grinning. "So…I guess you're a fan of butterflies, huh?"
"I just love it. I haven't even seen anything like that in years." she said. "Thank you." she told him, grinning back at him. She really liked that smile. It just made him all the more appealing. It was possible things had felt too dire lately. That she needed someone to smile at her.
Ben was happy to step up to the plate for that one and continued to smile at Eily as she spoke. "Well, I'm glad it's gone to a good home then. Been holding onto it for a while, waiting for someone who might appreciate it, and here you are. I'm glad you could take it off my hands," He said with another bright grin. Leaning forward, he took the pin and reached up for her gather some of her hair on her left side, reaching to pin her hair with the new hairpin. "See, even prettier when it's in your hair."
Normally she would probably have protested such an action, but this guy? Was just charming as hell. So she couldn't drum up even slight indignation. Instead, she was all smiles, still feeling like this was exactly what she needed. Just...a good damn time. Someone who was focused on her for good reasons. She was a happy bunny. "You are a charmer." she told him. "If you're starting out with this, what's going to be in store next?"
Ben liked that. He liked being called a charmer, but especially by her. "Well, we could have dinner. I'm starting to think you don't get 'dinners' if you're working here all the time." he said, watching her with a smile. "and you could wear your pin or your scarf and just sit back and let me cook. If you like burnt pasta..."
Eily had to laugh. God, he was right. She didn't get proper dinners a lot. She tended to eat on the go, which meant picking here and there. Plus, a lot of night she got home exhausted so cooking wasn't going to happen. "You know what I love? Not cooking! So I'm good for pasta of any variety, including burned."
"Tomorrow then," he said, but it wasn't really a question. He wanted to see her tomorrow already, even with how much he enjoyed her time now and Ben wanted to lock down her plans right now. "And you can just come over and relax."
Eily loved that. That he was setting up another 'date'. She was all about that. Moving fast? Yep. But she was for it. It made her feel wanted. "I'd love that. I know I've got cousins that can cover." she added. Or they'd be short staffed. She never took time for herself. She deserved this.
"Helps having family there to let you off. Besides, I think you deserve a night off, especially after that familial hospital visit." Taking a sip of his beer, he closed his eyes and nodded. "That's good. I should come here more often, good beer and a beautiful bartender. I might never leave."
"My brother makes it." Eily said. "He's the brewmaster. So, you'll have to thank him at some point." Her eyes were twinkling though, with mirth. She was just having a great time already. It was fun, relaxed, easy...definitely everything she needed right now. "You should come here more often. You should bring buddies. And hang out, and put music on the jukebox. It'll be great!"
“I should definitely come here more often, just to see you. My friends...don’t need to be wrecking your fine establishment, Miss,” He said, putting on a false Southern accent because it was fun and she was adorable which had him thinking that he could take a chance and be a little goofy with her. Maybe it’d make her laugh and then it would be completely worth it.
She did laugh. "Oh really?" she asked, batting her eyelashes and she fired back with her own southern drawl. "Why I do declare, you must run with the roudiest of ruffians!" she said. “Good thing I’m not a belle, now isn’t it?”
Oh, he could play this game. "You're as beautiful as any belle I've ever set my eyes upon, but I'ma thinkin' you could give the rowdiest of ruffians a run for their money," Ben said, though it was not without mirth in his own voice and a grin on his lips.
Eily gave him an innocent seeming smile, though the effect was ruined by the spark in her eyes. That was pure mischief. "Oh, you have no idea, Sir." she told him, voice full of promise.
He caught that spark and it rendered him speechless for a good, long moment, as all he could think about was the mischief that came with that spark and how he might be able to pull it out of her, because he really, really wanted to see it. Grinning, he nodded. "Well then, Miss O'Reilly, I'm challenging you to show me just how much you could keep up with my band of ruffians."
"Done. I'm there." she promised. "Until then...?" she questioned. She was thinking she could take off here. She glanced around the bar in general, got a few more drinks for people then came back to Ben.
"Until then…" He echoed, but watched her head to top people off and then come back to his side. Downing the rest of his beer as quickly as he could, he held his arm out to her and crooked it at his elbow. "Until then, I say you and I go for a walk."
Eily laughed. Then she turned to the others behind the bar, and talked to them briefly, before she bounced out from behind it. "Let's go!" she said, possibly a little too eager to get out of there.
Ben grinned a little more and started her toward the door. "Let's get out of here," He echoed, holding the door open for her and stepping outside with her. "Where to, lovely lady?" He asked, knowing it sounded maybe a little cheesy but they were having fun and she might as well know that he thought she was lovely.
She walked outside, and drew in a deep breath. "Wherever?" she suggested. "I know, that's lame. But I kinda own the only actual bar, so...let's just walk around. Maybe go to the park, hope there aren't any wolves wandering around..." There hadn't been new attacks, as far as she knew. It seemed like they'd decided they were done for now.
"Let's go to the park. You can protect me if there are any wolf attacks, because you're so rowdy," Ben teased lightly, even though he knew that from their first conversation, she would probably do a better job protecting him than he would her.
She laughed. "Good thing you aren't threatened by a girl being awesome." she told him. She turned in the direction of the park, strolling along beside him. "So tell me about yourself." she invited.
This was not a question Ben really liked to answer. He'd gotten it a couple times, but the answer never really felt right. What he wanted to know was more about her, more about her life and her family and things that made her happy, but it was also a hard question to dodge. "What do you want to know, specifically?" He asked, looking back her way. "Because I can tell you about my fifth grade play or I can tell you about other things, but I just don't know where to start."
"Start with where you grew up, your family, stuff like that." Eily invited, knowing family was a top priority for her, so hearing about his was a big thing. She wanted to know how he felt about family in general, if there was going to be a clash there or not. She just desperately hoped not.
