Apologies
Who: Skylar and Clementine
Where: Clementine's house
When: afternoon
Skylar had a plan to stay awake and wait for Clementine, but that didn’t go so well. Between the blood loss and not really sleeping he found himself curled up on her couch, laying on his side, pillow clenched against his chest.
Clementine hadn’t expected to see Skylar when she’d come home but there he was, on the couch in her house. After their run-in at his booth, she hadn’t thought he’d come to see her. But there he was and she didn’t really know what to do right now. Why was he asleep on her couch? Confused, Clementine sidestepped him and went to the kitchen, pouring two cups of water while she tried to make sense of this. She came back and put one down on the table near him, debating whether or not to speak to him. After a long, long moment, she cleared her throat and waited to see if that took.
Skylar only half heard the noise, making a noise and rolling over a bit, still clinging to the pillow. He murmured in his sleep, something not quite words.
She watched him for another long moment and then stood up and started toward the kitchen. While she was still a little annoyed with him, she didn’t want to wake him up when he looked so peaceful. Instead, she figured she was hungry and maybe she could make enough to eat for both of them, since apparently Skylar was here, for whatever reason. So she began crafting some canned soup on the stovetop and took a moment to just smell the warming vegetable soup.
The smell of food slipped through his dream, which had Skylar starting to wake up, rolling more and looking around. It took a moment before he realized he wasn’t at his house, but somewhere else. A longer moment before he sat up enough to spot the blonde. Clementine. That was right. Dragging himself off the couch, he was even more of a disheveled mess, still in the clothes from the night before, hair sticking up everywhere, and half asleep. He stumbled towards her, hands finding her waist first. “Whatcha making?”
Clementine had not expected that. She turned a little to look at Skylar, whom she’d thought was still asleep but apparently was not and had his hands on her waist again. And it wasn’t like they hadn’t been cuddled up together on that exact couch earlier but that was before their argument. “...Soup. Making enough for both of us. Why..were you snoozing on my couch?”
He nodded. “Soup sounds good.” He rested his chin on her shoulder. “I was coming to see you. Zania said I could stay and I wound up falling asleep.” He was kind of comfortable, still waking up, but liking Clementine close.
What was he doing? Didn’t he remember they’d fought at his booth? And now his chin was on her shoulder and it was really cute, but even more confusing. “Here I am,” She said, still looking back at him. “Is something wrong?”
“We were wrong,” Skylar said, looking confused. “Because we had that fight. I didn’t want to fight with you.”
“We had a fight because…” Thinking back now, she wasn’t even sure how it started. “Because you just assumed I was going to get hurt by a friend that I wanted to help. And then I just...yelled at you. I don’t want to fight with you either but we did.” And he’d been kissing Kenzie and how did she even bring that up? She still wasn’t sure why that upset her so much.
“Well I didn’t know the whole thing with the vampires was real. I just thought he was some weirdo. And now I know...and I’m still not okay with it. Because of how it feels.” He frowned a little, but kept holding on to her waist. “Why did we? We don’t fight.”
She narrowed her eyes a little, more confused about certain parts of what he just said. “Ok, wait, what do you mean now you know?” She asked, turning a little to look at his face. To study, more accurately, and let her eyes travel down to his neck. “Did someone bite you?”
Skylar nodded. “Zania,” he said with a grin. “And that’s...intense. Don’t do it with some guy again. I don’t think...I mean how could anyone compete with that?”
Finally, Clementine reached up and turned off the stove, then turned in Skylar’s arms to look back at him. “Zania bit you?” She echoed, watching his expression turn and feeling a knot form in her stomach. He was grinning, he was happy, and she knew why but it did kind of suck to see that on his face and know the source. “Wait, don’t do it again? But they’re my friends. If they need blood, I want to help them…” She trailed off, though, as the rest of his sentence registered for her. “What does that mean, Sky?”
“She said you could give blood like in a bag. Nic could do it,” Skylar said, thinking that was still helping. He shrugged one shoulder. “It means...I don’t like it.” He hadn’t been comfortable. He oddly didn’t want some random guy making her feel like that. “I can’t… I mean if I wanted to, no way.”
The rest of it got washed out as she just continued to stare at him. “...Do you want to?” She asked after a moment, not sure there was anything else she could ask right now. It was not what she was expecting. Not something that she wasn’t hoping for, exactly, but she hadn’t expected to hear it like that. “...And what about you, do you get to go around and feel like that? If I wanted to and had to go up against it…”
“Do you want to?” Skylar asked because that sounded like the more important question. He didn’t actually know if he wanted to or not. Well he knew he wanted to, he supposed, he wouldn’t be against it. It’d be fun actually.
Clementine looked back at him and bit her lip while she tried to figure out how to phrase this. "…Maybe," She said, though it sounded more like an affirmative statement than anything else. "…But if I did, I don't think I'd want you kissing Kenzie either."
Skylar considered that. “No more vampire guy either,” he said. Sure the Kenzie thing that was fun, that wasn’t much him as much as it was her. And he enjoyed following along with it.
“Ok, no more letting Mannix bite me. And you, no more letting Zania bite you or Kenzie kiss you.” Clementine caught his eyes, her own changing a little as she started to smile. “What are we doing here, Sky?”
Skylar found himself shrugging. “I don’t know. I don’t do this.” He didn’t date. He just was. What was going on with Kenzie was more his speed.
“Well, you came in here to tell me you didn’t want me letting Mannix bite me anymore...so I figure you probably had some sort of plan,” Clementine said, a grin spreading. “If you’re not...if you don’t want to go up against that, then why would you make that demand?”
“I don’t usually have plans. I came to stop us fighting,” Skylar said, shaking his head. “I wasn’t getting much further than that.” He shook his head. “Mannix?” he asked. guessing that was the guy’s name.
“Mannix. He’s related to Zania,” She explained, still watching him closely. “Ok, so no plans, but no feeding directly and no making out with Kenzie… I can shake on those rules if you can,” She said, holding her hand out to him to see if he would, though she didn’t necessarily want him to take his hands from her waist. “I’m glad you came over. Even if we are fighting, which we aren’t anymore and hopefully we won’t be in the future, you’re still welcome here.”
“He’s the vampire,” Skylar connected, nodding a little. He eyed her hand then reached for it, shaking it. He wasn’t sure what they were agreeing him to, but he shook her hand. He liked those terms. “Good to know I’m welcome. I like being welcome.”
“He’s a vampire. Zania is one too, as you know. There’s more than just Mannix here,” She said, shaking his hand a little before she turned around again, still inside the comfort of his arm, and reached to turn the soup back on. “Well, I hope you also like vegetable soup.”
He didn’t leave her side, staying close, because this was nice. Especially now that he wasn’t fighting with Clementine. So he stayed, chin on her shoulder, watching her cook, feeling much better about everything.
