Character history: Theresa started out life the way everyone else does, as a child. Born in California, she was the fourth daughter of two schoolteachers and was raised in a traditional home in the suburbs. But beneath the surface of normalcy lay the potential for disaster, as the girl's father was prone to drinking and her mother often had affairs outside of the marriage. A bright student, Theresa made good grades and seemed bound for college, but the strain of an outwardly happy life warring with the rot underneath soon had her acting out in ways that served to get her in trouble. Between petty theft and drug use, Theresa careened more and more out of control and her parents were unable to cope with their daughter.
She first ran away from home at fourteen, and the police brought her back when they found her living in a squat with some other homeless kids. Therapy was suggested, but when her parents made no effort to seek help the girl continued on her path of rebellion and trouble-making. She finally dropped out of high school in her junior year, and as time passed she drifted farther and farther out on the edge. In 1987, she ran away from home for the last time, and at the age of seventeen she was living on the streets and prostituting herself to get by and feed her minor drug habit.
That was how she met Dane.
At first glance, Dane was just like any other guy; friendly, maybe a little lonely, ready to pay for what she was selling. When they first met he mumbled something about working the night shift and having no time for a relationship, and despite her cynical attitude Theresa bought it. Not yet eighteen, she hadn't seen as much of the world as she thought she had, and when she brought him back with her after knowing him for four months, he was just another john to her, albeit a harmless one. She was wrong, and much like other tragedies of similar circumstances, she didn't know it until it was too late. After that, though, Theresa learned more - a lot more - than she ever thought possible.
With Dane as her sire/mentor, the two of them took to the streets, picking pockets and committing crimes through the underbelly of Hollywood, where vampirism is almost just another fetish. This went on for several years, until Theresa ran afoul of a hunter in the area with one of her scams. The hunter, a religious sort who didn't take kindly to even the existence of vampires, immediately set out to destroy her for her hubris. Unfortunately for him, the girl was quick on her feet and managed to escape a handful of times. Unfortunately for Theresa, he ended up capturing Dane and setting him on fire, burning the elder vamp to ashes.
The destruction of her sire left Theresa adrift, and she eventually left California for what she hoped would be a safer climate. She picked New Orleans at random, settling there while she tried to re-group. She's slowly drifted back into turning tricks for money, lacking the initiative for schemes on her own. And with that hunter still out there someplace, she doesn't want to make too big of a splash. No sense both her and Dane filling up ashtrays.
