If Only All Tourists Were So Much Fun
The night is young, the music carries and mingles with the cacophony of voices, all loud and trying to be heard. Some are louder, brasher and far more powerful. Tourists - flashy, naïve, and more than a little swept away in the mystique of New Orleans.
The city is practically a live body (flesh, bone and sinew that can’t be seen, but embodies the gut, heart and soul of the place) beneath their inexperienced feet. It’s infectious, seeping through the pores of exposed skin, filling capillaries and making hearts beat that much faster.
Excited, awestruck and on occasion beyond all help, tourists are ripe cherries for the picking. Granted there are a few smarter and quicker individuals amongst the mass identity and those are good for keeping him on his toes, but tonight he wants something fast and easy. Like a good one night stand, no regrets and no awkward morning after.
The easiest marks are the ones that think flashing their precious holiday money - money they probably saved up to spend - is the way to get noticed. It is, but for all the wrong reasons. The sad thing is that stupidity is catching, spreading like wildfire, consuming all clear thinking individuals until there’s nothing left but the overwhelming crowd mentality. It’s exploitable, all it takes is a keen eye and a sharp mind.
Thankfully? Adam was gifted with both.
The play may be difficult and it involves mimicking a thick Texan accent, but that’s the beauty of being who he is: every place is a stage and he’s nothing more than a humble actor, looking to reach the heights of greatness that only a few could ever aspire to reach.
Although, the last time he checked? Actors didn’t reach into the pockets of strangers with questing fingers until experiencing the full embrace of leather and wallet. Or maybe they did? Not that his thoughts linger on this for very long - places to be, people to see and money to be had.
If only all tourists were so much fun.
