Dream has only undergone a handful of moves with the Cirque so far, and once again she found the experience quiet unnerving. She still had a lot to learn, but when they’d first arrived in New Orleans, she had found that taking a walk down a busy night street had done wonders to orient her. She’d loved it immediately; her hometown of Los Angeles was sleek and modern and soulless, the utter pinnacle of mundane humanity. New Orleans had some character to it. It had felt like the place the Cirque should be. Tonight, Dream felt as out of place in Athens as she thought the Cirque looked. She herself was dressed like she’d just stepped off the pages of a now-printed-in-color 1920s fashion catalogue. Her hair was glamoured so that delicate wispy bangs peaked out from beneath the cloche hat she wore. The fur coat was similarly period, and it could have easily been some vintage mink thing, except that it was a shimmering shade of sugar plum purple. In fact, in the moonlight she was altogether easy to mistake for a ghost, with her out of time attire and silver eyes that shimmered a little too bright to be human. But another fae would easily be able to see her for what she truly was — a changeling, just doing her best impression of a normal girl. Under one arm she carried a small black umbrella, utterly unnecessary with the clear night sky. But she had never been to Greece before, or really much outside her home country, since the Circus had spent half her tenure so far in New Orleans. She had no idea what to expect, and her expected company would certainly be no reliable help. She spotted him then, past the tents still waiting to be set up. Hoisting her umbrella above her head, she shook it back and forth urgently to get his attention without waking anyone who might be spending the rare night asleep back in the caravans. “I wasn’t altogether too sure you’d show,” Dream admitted in a dramatic stage whisper the second he was near enough to hear her. |
