As Rowan moved through the world, it was with almost silence. Her footfalls seemed to have no sound to them, and she passed through crowds almost as though she were intangible. Rowan hadn't always been so quiet. She remembered, long ago, laughing and dancing and cavorting with her many sisters, cheerful beautiful fae living with grace and gaiety among the trees. She lacked such a sense of joy now. How could a dryad remember to laugh with such simple abandon when her tree was dead? To kill a dryad's tree was to tear her very soul out, and Rowan was rare indeed to have even survived it. |
