"I'm not talking about this right now," he said firmly. Really, he had no intention of talking about it later, either, but he hoped that that would placate her. "I just need some sandwiches."
He could tell that Mad wanted to say more, but she gave him an irritated look instead and made the two sandwiches, wrapping them up in paper towels and then again in plastic wrap before putting them in a brown paper bag. He didn't stop her when she started throwing in small snack packs of cookies or when she handed him two bottles of water.
"Thanks, Mad. I promise that I'll baby-sit for you soon, for free," he said, taking the paper bag.
