He wasn't acting fine, though. Stacey didn't know what to do about it; she didn't want to push him and get him more upset, but she also didn't want him to bottle anything up.
I know how much that sucks, she reflected and then felt guilty and disloyal for thinking it. It wasn't Sam's fault that she had mistakenly believed he was going to propose and it wasn't his fault that she was now questioning his plans for their future. It was all on her.
"Okay," she said tentatively, as if she was afraid that not looking contrite would piss him off, "um, so I'm doing some spring cleaning if you want to help."
