Who: Ron and Hermione Weasley-Granger
What: A weekend together
Where: Hogsmeade
When: Saturday

About ten minutes after he'd suggested to Hermione that they have a proper date - which had them turned into a night away - Ron had fully realised that it was also Hermione's birthday next week. It would be the perfect opportunity to do something together privately to celebrate, just the two of them safely away from the pressures of work.

So, he'd done his best to arrange something special. Ron had made breakfast at home for them both this morning, then in Hogsmeade he'd taken Hermione to Soliel. The bright yellow shop wasn't their normal sort of place, but he'd found a voucher for a discount on their all-day spa treatment. Ron had never had a massage before, or green seaweed-y gunk put on his face before, but by the time they'd left he'd felt more relaxed and refreshed than he had for weeks.

His arm curled around Hermione's waist as they left the spa, the sun already setting. "I was thinking the Three Broomsticks for dinner? Could always have food up in our room? Or we can go somewhere else? Whatever you fancy."

Most people would assume that Ron didn't have it in him, but he could be really thoughtful sometimes and the day proved it. He had cooked her breakfast, taken her out and treated her to something that she never would have considered for herself. Hermione had to admit, she really enjoyed the spa. What did Bill keep telling her? Not to stress. That was a very good way to start.

Walking down the street in the early evening, she thought that she couldn't have constructed a better day herself. "The Three Broomsticks sounds lovely," she agreed, leaning into Ron as they walked. "And thank you for today, it was perfect and amazing."

"Yeah, sounds good to me too," Ron agreed. Rosmerta did good food. Not as good as his mother's homecooked food, but it was up there among the best. Autumn was drawing in now, too, and the Three Broomsticks conjured up memories of Hogsmeade weekends and stopping in for a butterbeer.

"Glad you liked it," he said, smiling widely. Perfect and amazing. Compliments like that were always good for his ego. He'd been just a little worried that Hermione would dismiss something like a massage as a waste of time. "I thought we could both do with something like that, y'know?"

Hermione knew it would sound good to him. Both she and Ron loved the Three Broomsticks and had since they were at Hogwarts. It had been a meeting place for a lot of them over the years. "Something familiar," she said, nodding.

"I never would have thought of doing something like that myself," she admitted with a returning smile. "But I'm glad that you thought of it. It was very relaxing. And a surprise. I wouldn't have guessed that's where we were going in a million years." Hermione liked surprises.

"I just sort of thought that you deserved something special for your birthday. Something that we could share." Merlin knew work had been an extremely stressful environment for both of them this week with people spouting the truth every which way you turned.

She looked beautiful now, Ron thought, smiling and glowing with relaxation. Maybe later he'd be able to show her how much he appreciated that. Lately, their lovemaking had been a little on the businesslike side, but hopefully that would be different tonight.

"Guess that's the point of a good present, y'know? Getting something you'd never get yourself."

"You know my birthday is always better with you and that was a brilliant idea." Leaning up, she kissed him on the cheek. Hermione was happiest when Ron was happiest and it was even better when they could be relaxed and happy together.

"You're right. I know how much you like hearing that, it's exactly the point of a good present. But now how are you going to top yourself at Christmas?" she teased him. By the time the 25th of December came around, they would probably need another break and Hermione thought she might suggest the same thing again.

"It's nice to get away for a bit. Just us."

Ron chuckled. Yes, he did like hearing that he was right. Mostly because it didn't happen so often. Hermione was, by his own very honest admission, far smarter than him in a lot of ways. "We haven't even had your actual birthday yet and you want me to plan Christmas?" he joked. Though, actually, she was probably right. His mother would probably stat trying to plan for Christmas soon, as would Hermione.

"You know," he said slowly, "we could always do Christmas alone this year. Just us. First Christmas as a married couple? Should even be in our own house by then if everything keeps going according to schedule."

"Christmas isn't that far away," she reminded him. "I'm not letting you leave everything to the last minute this year. Remember when you forgot to get your dad a present? Lucky you can give him anything muggle and he'll love it. And that I'm muggle-born," she added with a laugh.

Looking interested at the idea of Christmas alone, she asked, "Would your mother even let us?" Hermione doubted it. Mrs Weasley liked to make a big fuss at Christmas time. "I like the idea, I really do. I just don't think she will," she added with a smile. "But that would be brilliant wouldn't it? A new house to decorate, a tree we pick out by ourselves, you organising dinner while I pretend to help and try not to burn anything."

"I know. Anyway, we should just do joint presents for family. So much easier." The suggestion was partly fuelled by laziness, of course. Who in their right mind actually enjoyed Christmas shopping?

"Yeah, she wouldn't be pleased," Ron admitted reluctantly. "But we can still do our own tree and decorations. And then next year..." He stopped in the street, pulling Hermione to face him and wrapping both arms around her. "Next year, we could have a little family of our own. Start our own traditions."

"That was my plan," Hermione told him. "And you just think it's easier because it means I'll do all the work and then put your name on the card," she teased. She didn't trust him to buy presents before Christmas Eve anyway.

She knew it, Mrs Weasley would never let them spend Christmas alone. "Right, we can decorate to our heart's content. And Christmas Eve will be all ours to spend in front of the fireplace with our beautiful tree in the background." Smiling as Ron turned her to face him and pulled her closer, she brightened as he mentioned a family of their own.

"I really hope so," she agreed, wrapping her arms around his neck. "That would be my idea of a perfect Christmas." They still had plenty of time for that to be an option, even if things were taking longer than she had expected.

Ron grinned. He could certainly think of a few things that they could do in front of their fireplace on Christmas Eve. The sooner they could get all the masses of paperwork out of the way, the better in his opinion. At this point, Ron was glad that they were only renting at the moment and didn't have the stress of trying to buy and sell at the same time.

"Yeah," he agreed in a murmur. "Would be amazing, wouldn't it?" Hopefully, that would happen for them. He knew it might not happen immediately, but Hermione seemed to have a keen grip on just what those books she'd picked up were telling her about how best to get pregnant. "I can picture it."

"Very amazing," she said with a nod, getting up on her tiptoes to kiss him properly. She didn't usually like to do things like that in public, but she was caught up in the moment and there weren't that many people around.

"I can picture it, too" Hermione agreed when she pulled away. "Almost too clearly." She had definitely been working on getting them to that point, though Ron had been doing his fair share in that department too. Even if Bill said it had nothing to do with books, there was timing and plenty of other things that could only help with what they were trying to achieve. And she was going to use them all.

"We should probably stop standing in the middle of the street and go for dinner, if we want any time to ourselves after it."

Ron tenderly caressed her cheek. Over the years, he had seen Hermione with their nieces and nephews and he knew what she was like with children. He'd seen Bill and Fleur's family grow, and now Harry and Ginny's. It felt like it was their turn. And there was nothing they couldn't do if they put their minds to it, right?

"Probably," he agreed, stealing a very quick kiss before putting his arm around her and steering her towards the pub. "Kind of getting hungry now. Didn't think sitting around being pampered would work up an appetite."

Hermione smiled as Ron touched her cheek. She couldn't wait until they had a son or daughter of their own. He was going to make a wonderful father and there was nothing better to share with someone than that.

"Anything can work up an appetite for you," she reminded him as they walked. "Even eating can result in more eating," she teased.

Walking into the pub, they ended up with a table down the back corner, which she was happy about. A little more private and away from the bar. "I think I need to say again, how nice it's been to just get out and be us for a while."

"Oi. Cheeky." Ron frowned, though he wasn't really that upset. So what if he liked to eat a lot? It never seemed to show, especially when he put in the effort at the Ministry's gym. That gym was a godsend and Hermione seemed to appreciate the results. He liked the structure that it gave his day, too.

Sitting beside his wife, Ron's hand rested gently on her knee beneath the table. "Yeah, it is. Feels like it's been ages. Or we're always out at family events and stuff so it's not just us, y'know?"

Hermione just smiled as Ron frowned, she teased him about his eating all the time. She was allowed to, considering he wasn't ever any worse the wear for it. It really amazed her that he could eat the amount he did without gaining any weight.

It was the little things like his hand on her knee that constantly reminded her why she loved Ron and why they were perfect together and she just watched him for a moment before nodding. "We should do this more often, make time for ourselves."

They would need it if they got their wish. As soon as they had children that would be it, there wouldn't be much time left for them to just be them. Although Hermione really wanted a baby, she knew she should enjoy this alone time with Ron while she had it.

"We should." He nodded. It was something that was easy to agree to, but they would need to put in the effort to actually pull it off. Luckily, Hermione was a whiz with timetables. They could make it work. "And we can take it in turn to pick what we do."

Ron patted her knee and rose to his feet. "Right, I'm going to go get us some drinks. What are you having?"

"That's a great idea," she said, nodding. "We could decided that there's one weekend a month that's purely going to be for us and we'll alternate picking something to do." Smiling at the thought, Hermione decided they could really do it. They should have been doing it already, but with their schedules what they really needed was a decision like this to make sure. If it appeared on their calendar, they couldn't forget it.

"I'll just have a butterbeer, thanks," she replied when Ron decided to get drinks. She was trying not to combine alcohol with their pregnancy attempts.
