Annual Victory Day celebrations have been held in Hogsmeade on 2 May since 1999, celebrating the defeat of Voldemort and his Death Eaters. While residential areas are considered off-limits, High Street and South High Street are festively decorated and bustling with activity. All shops are closed for the day but there are a number of booths selling food, memorabilia, etc. This is a family-friendly affair and there are numerous carnival games suitable for children. At noon, there are several speeches by the Minister of Magic and other heroes of the War. Now that Kingsley Shacklebolt is no longer Minister for Magic, Harry Potter is the only person to speak every year. Minister Smethwyk will give the first speech and Harry will give the last. Following the speeches is a concert. The performers aren't always the same, but three out of the eight Victory Day celebrations have featured Celestina Warbeck. This year, however, is catering to a younger crowd. In the evening, Minister Smethwyk reads a list of the names of those who gave their lives fighting Voldemort, including those who died during his first rise to power, which is followed by a minute of silence. Later that night is the annual fireworks show. Unlike last year, everything goes smoothly and peacefully, as planned. Schedule 10:00 - Celebrations Begin noon - Speeches 2:00 - Concert (Spellbound, Sebastian Le Croux and Equinox Research) 6:00 - Reading of the Names 6:10 - Minute of Silence 9:30 - Fireworks Begin |
