Traditionally, people believed that this time of year, the veil between our world and the afterlife, or the spirit world, was thinner, so spirits and other things could travel to our world. People would put on disguises and leave food out. It was also a time to honor the dead, so people would have parties and visit cemeteries to remember their loved ones. Mostly now, kids put on costumes and go trick or treating, where they'd go around asking neighbors for candy or money, pretending like they'd pull a prank if they didn't get anything. People carve faces into pumpkins and put candles inside, we play games, tell scary stories around a bonfire, things like that.
