WHO: Rose Tyler & Ianto Jones
WHEN: [Backdated!] Friday, September 4th
WHERE: Ianto’s room.
WHAT: Rose wanted to check up on friend.
WARNINGS: None!
After being told that Ianto Jones had been released from Medical, Rose Tyler went on a search for her new friend. Or an old friend. It was hard to say considering they had been friends before, but Rose has no memory of it. This was one of the biggest problems Rose found about this place. The list seemed to grow almost daily, but not being able to remember her life here was near the top. From their first meeting, Rose could see why they had been friends. Rose had only been here for a few days, but she sense that her and Ianto would become fast friends, which led to her wanting to check up on him. It made sense to her that the first place, after Medical, that she should look would be his place. When she arrived, she knocked on the door three times and hoped that he was there. If not, she could use the network to see where he was about. Rose still couldn’t believe the events that took place here. It happened before Rose’s arrival, and a part of her was happy that she wasn’t here to witness the horror. On the other hand, it pained her to think that her friends had to deal with this on their own. She worried about what could have happened to them, what could have happened to the Doctor. Now there was a thought she didn’t want to explore. Not only does a hurt Doctor put her in a sour mood, after their conversation, thinking about him hurt. Rose had no idea where they stood, her confusion and pain didn’t really seem to make anything more clear to her. It was easier to avoid it at the moment, and at least chatting with Ianto would help. Right now, this was about seeing how her friend was doing, not about her personal life. "It's open!" Ianto called from the bed where he was settled with a pile of books. They'd released him from medical, but it was still a bit of effort to get around. His left side was healing as well as good be expected, but the wolf that attacked him had clawed quite a bit of his leg, side and arm. Which meant that walking was still with the aid of crutches and even Martha had said that he might have a limp because of this. Currently he was using Jack's coat as a blanket to cover up that side of him. He didn't much care to look at it. At least he was alive and human had been what everyone had said after the battle, but with Jack gone, Ianto wasn't sure how much that mattered. He looked up when the door opened and his face brighten. Even though it wasn't the Rose he had come to know, Rose was Rose, and Ianto couldn't help but be on good terms with her. "Make yourself at home," he said with a smile and a wave of his hand as though this was his flat in Cardiff and not just a room identical to any other. Hearing Ianto’s invitation, Rose walked in, and with a few steps she saw Ianto in his room, sitting on his bed. “Hello there,” she said happily. He certainly looked better, but she imagined it would take quite a long time for his wounds to heal. It made her sad to think so many people had suffered because of these creatures. “Thank you.” Rose said and as she took a seat she added, “How are you feeling?” Rose looked around the room, it wasn’t all that different from her own, she imagined that they would all look similar. It was hard to imagine that she would be calling this place home for the time being, possibly forever if the person who brought her here again decided not to send her back home. One thing that did catch her eye was Jack’s coat. Curious, she would have thought that Jack would be around. Rose looked about, but didn’t see anyone. “Where’s Jack?” Rose asked. From the way those two looked at one another, she was surprised that Jack wasn’t by his side now. Unless he had gone off to get something. He certainly seemed thrilled to have her back, and she admitted that she missed him as well. Rose and Jack didn’t a chance to reunite during their business with the Daleks, everything moved so fast that one minute he was there and the next minute he was off with Mickey and Martha. "Been better, but good enough that Martha gave the okay to leave medical," Ianto said, managing a smile. He didn't mention that she'd also given the okay to take it easy during sex. "It'll take some getting used to, though." He gestured towards his leg and the crutches with his hand. When she asked about Jack, his face fell. "Gone," he whispered. Rose nodded. “Good.” Knowing Martha, she would make absolute sure that Ianto was well enough to leave. There would be no need to question, and she was thankful that Martha was there to watch over people. His words caught her off guard. “Gone? What do you mean he’s gone?” Her face looked shocked. No, Jack couldn’t be gone. “The same way I left?” Rose sat down and put her hands to cover her face. Ever since she arrived, it had been one emotional sting after another. To lose Jack, it hurt, just when they were reunited. However hurt she felt, she imagined it was worse for Ianto. He was hurt, injured and Jack should be here for him. Rose leaned forward and took his hand. “I’m sorry, Ianto. I wish he hadn’t gone.” Rose fell silent for a moment because what else could she say? They lost someone they cared about and he may not return as quickly as Rose did. “Is there anything I can do for you?” Ianto nodded. "Well, I'm not sure if it was the same way but he was just standing there talking to me and then he just disappeared." The sadness and loss was readable on his face as well as a bit of confusion. He'd been here long enough that people did just disappear, but he hadn't expected it to happen to Jack. He squeezed Rose's hand. "Just stay awhile? I could use the company and probably to get out of my head for awhile." Rose could only shake her head as he spoke. It was really unfair, and she knew all too well what it felt like to watch someone you love disappear in front of you. “I’m so sorry.” It was all she could get out at the moment. What else could she say? Yes, Rose returned after a short time of being gone, but that might not be the same case for everyone. While she hoped that Jack would return, it might not do Ianto any good right now. He was allowed to feel sad and hurt. She hated the fact that there was someone or something that could so easily take away friends, family and loved ones. It pained her to think that her disappearance caused pain. She wish she had never gone in the first place, maybe then she’d have more time with Jack, things between her and the Doctor wouldn’t be so complicated. No use in wishing though. Rose would still be in the same position as she’s in now, she would still be sad at Jack’s disappearance and she’d still be here, comforting Ianto. Rose smiled. It was a half sad smile, but it was still a smile. “Of course.” She squeezed his hand in return. “I’ll keep you company as long as you want.” Ianto smiled in thanks, though it was tinged with sadness. "You know, you'd think I'd be used to losing him by now, watching him die all these times, but it's different. I knew he'd come back, I've seen him come back so many times, but there's always a body… this time he just… disappeared." Ianto's gaze fell on the old pocketwatch open in his left hand and he watched the second hand tic by. "I… I can tell you how long it'll take for him to come back from a gunshot wound versus suffocation, but this… I just don't know.." Rose shook her head. “No, I don’t think that’s something anyone can get used to it. If I had to watch him-” Rose bit her lip. “You’re a lot braver than me. It’s my fault he’s like that. I know he would never blame me, but it’s the truth. I did that to him.” All that time ago, she had guessed something wasn’t right, at the time she knew the Doctor was hiding something from her. When Rose found out the truth, they said she wasn’t allowed to be sorry, but they were being kind. Too kind because of how much they cared about her. “It can happen. Maybe it’s just a fool’s hope, but I’d rather be a fool in this case, wouldn’t you? He can come back. And look,” Rose pointed a finger to her face. “Same old me. Nothing wrong as far as I can tell.” "Rose… don't…" he said, taking her hand in his and squeezing before bringing her hand to his lips and kissing it. "You saved his life, Rose. You're a hero. And if you hadn't made him like that, I never would have met him." Ianto gave Rose a smile. "You are, but I have to convince you of my charm all over again." Rose still felt guilty, but it did help to know that no one blamed her. It was a very uncomfortable mixture of feeling guilty, and not feeling guilty. After all, a world with Jack alive is a good world to be in. On the other hand, the life she gave him wasn’t an easy one. It was hard not to feel a sense of responsibility for it, even if Rose technically had no control of herself at the time. Rose didn’t even remember it all, not properly anyway. She supposed the Time Vortex sense the sadness in Rose, the part of her that was still in there that felt Jack’s death. Rose thought about asking the Doctor, but some things were best left unexplored. It wouldn’t necessarily make her feel any better or worse, more just her natural curiosity. Rose laughed, “Something tells me it won’t be all that difficult for you.” Rose stood up from her seat and clapped her hands together. “Right. You relax, and I’m going to find something. A snack or something to drink. This occasion really requires comfort food.” |
