Long term, yes. Men lose their minds to it, eaten away slowly until they are unable to remember their own names. Short term, you don't notice you have a collar around your neck until it's gone. Infractions are often punished by a reduction in lyrium rations. That is when you feel the dehydration, aches, confusion, irritability, and of course the nightmares--and that is just from reducing intake, not stopping completely. I haven't slept through a whole night in a decade. I have been lucky, though, in that my memory has been affected very little.
