Angie stepped in, and sat. But when he came back with his sarcasm, she rose again, mouth set into that particular line that always preceeded a good deal of sass. "First, I was teasing you, and you need to lighten up. Second, there's no need for that tone, Mr. Jarvis. I'm here as a friend, because you were really kind to me and Peggy when we needed a place to stay."
She pressed her lips together and blinked against a sudden stinging in her eyes. Holy Mary, she missed her folks. Tightening her jaw, again she raised her chin. "You're not the only one here who's missing people, you know. So stop acting like it. I guess that's what I was going to say, but not as mean."
Angie turned before he could catch a glimpse of the tears starting to gather at the corner of her eyes, and marched towards the door.
