In my experience, it's better to present an option and discover limitations than to not even ask at all.
It's become better in my reality, but there is still the occasional colony or culture which puts a limit on such knowledge. On the Enterprise, my nurses took it in turns each month to lead a seminar on sexual health amongst each species that were on the ship, and many more besides. Everyone was encouraged to attend. While we don't have quite the galactic diversity here, we do have many cultures who are represented. My goal is to have as many people as possible available to answer questions that people may have, as well as be able to provide women's health services.
We do have one woman here who is pregnant, Anne Blythe. She's going to be looked after by Beth Greene and Tony Gates, but she has been open to being a bit of a guinea pig as her pregnancy advances.
