Inara probably had no idea how glad Simon was to see her.
After losing Zoe, and then Kaylee and Mal at once, he'd been terrified for days that River would be next — or that he'd be next and he'd leave his sister alone here. But instead of taking again, it was almost as if the ... powers that be had taken pity on him and given him someone from his world. He wasn't sure how to feel about that, to think that maybe there was some rhyme or reason to who came through and who disappeared. It implied they were being watched, selected, chosen, and when they were no longer useful they were taken away.
"It's me," he said when he came back to see her, trying to rub some of the dampness out of freshly-washed hands. "I'm sorry, I took off an arm yesterday and am dealing with that." He didn't like that he'd had to leave her, but he was intensely busy and had patients to tend to.
But now, he'd cleared out a little portion of his schedule for her, and he pulled over a chair so he could sit, stretching out the leg that Early had shot.
He took a moment to settle, then spread his hands helplessly. "So, hi."
