Q&A with Steve Rogers
I want this job because I know I'll do a good job ensuring that justice and equality are things that we will all be able to enjoy, and because I have experience on both sides. I've been a civilian, and I know what it's like to be underrepresented. I know what it's like to be poor and to struggle just to survive. I know what it's like to be underestimated and beaten down by people and by the system that's supposed to protect us. I've only ever wanted to stand up for freedom and for people whose voices weren't being heard. When I joined the Army, that's what I vowed to do. Wherever there was injustice, wherever someone was being held down or hurt, I wanted to be there to stop it. I haven't forgotten the lessons I learned in my youth, even though I look the way I do now. Who I was then is still a driving force in my life now, and is still an inspiration. And because I know what it's like to be that person, I have that experience to rely upon as well as my extensive military experience, which I think makes me a strong candidate for this role. We need people who are going to look out for our best interests with no special agendas - not just ours as in those of us who arrived in pods, but all of us, and I know I'm the right person for that job. I know that I will stop at nothing to protect the people here, whether that is through encouraging the growth of our economy or through defending us against anyone who wants to do us harm. At the end of the day, I'm much more than just a military leader. While I do believe that my experience with the military will greatly benefit the council and our community as a whole, it's just as important for our leaders to represent more than just one aspect of life, and I believe I do that. I'm here for the people I'm representing. That's why I want this job.
