As there are a limited number of copies of various books available for our entire community to share, I thought that, perhaps, it would be nice if we were to share some of them together. When I was growing up, and indeed even as an adult, it was not uncommon for my family to gather in a sitting room each evening. Many entertainments were to be had, of course, from general conversation to card games to charades to listening as someone or other played the piano. During the winter, it was also a pleasure to settle with a cup of tea and listen as someone read aloud. While any of those are, of course, possible for us to take up while we are here, it is of reading aloud that I am most interested.
I've found myself in possession of the only copy we have of
The Hobbit, and I invite everyone to join myself and Cullen Rutherford as we read this together. I thought perhaps we could begin this evening, after the party, and continue each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings until we are through, at which point we will continue on through the Lord of the Rings books. We will be using the common area in 501. And of course, any other evenings that anyone wants to read aloud from a book, I imagine that would be most welcome.
