No, two different situations. This was in Londinium. It was being sacked by Boudica and her Iceni warriors. The young woman had been beaten and, as I said, miscarried. I was taking her to my... lair but my enemy stood in my way and said he would bar my entry until the sun rose. Had it just been me, I would have laughed and let us both die but the young woman needed shelter and my enemy, Theron, offered to heal her. Had I known what he meant by that, I would have left him and done it myself.
As for how I became a Bachiyr? By accident. It's a long story but the very short version is I fought Theron, who is a very old Bachiyr. He mortally wounded me but I managed to wound him in turn. He had previously fed from me to heal me from previous mortal wounds and he accidentally bled into my mouth and I swallowed his blood. That was enough. I died of my wounds and the next night, rose from my grave as I am now.
That may explain it. It seems piety is something that is anathaema to the Bachiyr. Theron had been sent by the Council to slay the Nazarene who had been preaching in Jerusalem. They feared him and after I was turned, I could see that the Nazarene and his followers glowed. I, and I presume all Bachiyr, cannot get close to anyone who glows, be they Jewish, Roman, a follower of the Nazarene or anyone. More significantly, we cannot feed from them.
