A good ways before any of us arrived here, Major had been attacked. Well, he'd done the attacking first (it was ... fairly justified. But I'd make a terrible vigilante so.) and was attacked back and nearly killed. Liv scratched him to turn him into a zombie.

And then injected him with the cure that I'd created - for her. The last of it. I wasn't able to continue tests and replicate it, I know why she did it and I don't exactly fault her, but-

It all seemed well? Major was cured, we went on to live happy-yet-not-especially lives and that was that.

Until our lives got a bit wilder, and I discovered that the cure was only temporary.

Not only temporary, but that it will kill Major. How long? I don't know. New Hope (my main test rat back home) died not long ago-- I've got new memories now too, which is both good and not what I wanted at all.

So essentially I have anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to save Major's life. And I don't know that I can do it. Not without causing massive other side effects. I had another one created and it wiped out the tester's memory. And that was the best option.
