Log: Reyna Ramirez-Arellano and Edmund Pevensie
Who: Reyna Ramirez-Arellano and Edmund Pevensie
What: Post-Storybrooke reunion.
When: The afternoon of April 17, 2151, just after the return from Storybrooke.
Where: Primarily 505N, although they’re standing in the doorway until Ed gets over his shock.
Warnings: None. Some kissing. They're pretty PG.

Her first thought upon showing up in front of Mt. Weather's blast doors was for Nico. Her second following shortly thereafter was for Edmund. Luckily Nico had appeared next to her, so she'd hugged him tightly before going in search of Edmund. A quick message to him and then she was on her way to his room, trying not rush, and still wearing the too-big frilly, maternity clothes she'd worn in that other world, where she'd been married and pregnant. It hurt her brain, but right now, she just needed Edmund.

There had been a moment, in Storybrooke, when the .. spell… had faded, that she'd thought, maybe, just perhaps, she'd gotten a happily ever after with him. But no, the fates were not that kind. Which is why she needed to find Edmund now. She ran down the corridors until she reached his room, knocking on it frantically. "Edmund? Ed? It's Reyna.."

It wasn’t that Edmund didn’t sleep. He just rarely made it beyond four or five hours before nightmares or his own restless thoughts made it impossible to continue. The nightmares would fade with time; they were already less constant since the battle with Jadis and the nearness of Aslan. He occasionally wondered why the Lion hadn’t cured that with the rest, but had come to the same conclusion he’d once told Jacob. The reminders kept him humble (more so than he’d be without them, at least).

Tired as he still was from the battle, and its aftermath, and with the upcoming night shift to look forward to, Edmund had taken a break from clean up to get some rest before he returned to duty. He’d left his tablet in his nightstand, and his sword beside his bed for the time being and had managed to slip into a light doze. Being woken from that by the knock on the door left him mildly irritated, at first. Susan should be sleeping off her own night shift, Lucy would be helping elsewhere, and anyone else ought to know to leave him alone. He been wary of sharing space with the displaced, not out of selfishness (not entirely, at least, however unprepared he was to have his roommates replaced), but for the same reason he’d declined Annabeth’s offer. Enough people had been witness to his nightmares, and he had no desire to add to that number, nor to disturb anyone else with them.

Reyna’s voice hit him like a dose of cold water. The tone, the familiarity, the obvious knowledge of him were enough to make him wonder if he wasn’t still dreaming. It wouldn’t have been the first time since the decimation of Mount Weather’s population (nor before that, if he were truthful) that she’d found her way into his dreams.

Dreaming or not, Edmund scrambled out of his bed, and into sufficient clothing to look presentable. Even with visits from his sisters and the remaining demigods, the common living area still looked unpleasantly bare. His face when he opened the door was wary.

It certainly looked like Reyna, if a bit out of character in those clothes. He tried not to be too obvious about drinking in the sight of her, and gripped the doorframe tightly with his left hand. His injured leg wasn't so bad as to require the support, but the feel of something solid was grounding. He thought his voice sounded reasonably calm when he asked, “Did you call me?”

It seemed like it took forever for the door to open but then it did and he was there, standing in front of her. "Edmund.." she breathed out, relief and more in voice and then she threw her arms around his neck, pressing her face into his neck. "Gods above, I- I wasn't sure I'd ever see you again."

She wanted to hold on and never let go. It was foolish and inappropriate but it didn't matter. She pulled back to cup his face in her hands, searching his eyes for something. What if she was wrong and he didn't share her feelings?

The hand on the doorframe became necessary as Edmund’s knees weakened. “Reyna.” He wrapped his other arm around her. “You know me.”

"Of course, Edmund, I…" There was so much to say. Words that had been unsaid before. Words she was afraid to say. "I know you, Edmund Pevensie. I… We were stuck in another world, with false memories and…"

There was a lump in her throat as she closed her eyes, not wanting to think of just how domestic she'd been. "I remember it all though… our patrols with Charlie squad, all the sparring to exhaust you so you could sleep, the pegasus you made me that kept me safe in battle… you destroying the wand, the battle, afterwards.." How right it had felt to fall asleep in his arms. Her brown eyes searched his as she whispered the next words. "What I wanted to say but didn't.."

She caught her lower lip between her teeth, hesitating for a moment before leaning in and brushing her lips against his.

Edmund listened with growing wonder. The emotion in her voice matched his own longing. He was preparing words to say so when the kiss caught him off guard. Equally hesitantly, he returned the kiss, taking his hand from the doorframe to stroke her hair.

“By the Lion,” he whispered after a moment. “I’m either having a very good dream or a very bad one.” The woman in his arms felt very real, but he didn't want to chance letting her go. This was the moment when she would disappear before his eyes, or he’d blink to find himself holding a statue, or she would accuse him of failing to protect her from some dreadful retribution on the Witch’s part.

“I missed you,” he said, which was true, but a substitute for many other things as well. “I didn't think I’d see you again.” He’d braced himself for the thought of her coming back and seeing him as a stranger, without knowledge of their conversations, of how they trained together and fought beside each other. “I ought to expect miracles.” He’d certainly received more than his fair share.

"Not a dream, I promise." She pinched his arm lightly to add emphasis and proof to the words. She understood the sentiment though. That last hour and then arriving here.. She'd been paranoid he had left or disappeared. Any number of terrible situations had flitted through her mind. But he was here. And she'd kissed him. And he'd kissed her back. "Just… Magic playing havoc with our lives."

It dawned on her suddenly that they were in the hallway where anyone could see and she felt a flush spread through her cheeks. "Can we.." she tilted her head towards his room. "Maybe go inside?"

She knew what she felt for Edmund, but she still was a praetor after all, and not particularly inclined towards public displays of emotion. But she didn't want to think about the last two weeks. Focusing on the here and now, on Edmund, was preferable.

He smiled a little despite the pinch. It would have taken less gentleness to awaken him, in any case, had he actually been asleep, but gratitude and relief and hope were an intoxicating combination.

He flushed as well at her request to go inside. "I'm sorry. Of course." He wasn't usually one for public displays of affection either. Just as little was truly private as a king, and university students were prone to gossip, Mount Weather had its own active grapevine. Edmund didn't like the idea of subjecting someone he cared for to rumor. "Come in," he said, opening the door and gesturing towards the couch in the common area.

He had so many questions about what had happened that he didn't know where to start, especially with that kiss still burning his lips distractingly. Before she'd gone, they had been friends, whatever else had been thought or implied, but now... they were something else, surely.

Common sense told her that she should be fine going to the couch and that Edmund would join her. But common sense had no bearing anymore due to the magic that had affected all of them in Storybrooke. Her hand found Edmund's and she intertwined their fingers, clinging to him as she stepped inside so he could close the door, unwilling to let go of him even for a moment. It was a bit unlike her, but then nothing was truly normal about the last few weeks.

She didn't let go until they made it to the couch, sitting down so she was facing him, knees touching his and Jupiter, what was she wearing. There'd be time enough to ask about her clothes and weapons later. Right now, she needed him.

Her hand took his, turning it over, running her fingers along the palm. "I… Edmund… I… Jupiter.. I'm not good at this.."

This.

It was strange and different, but not something Edmund wanted to complain about. For the past two weeks, he’d held a running battle with himself as to whether he hoped or dreaded she’d come back. A hundred times he’d begun to write to her or look for her to tell her about some frustration or some exciting event only to remember that he couldn’t. The idea of her returning to regard him indifferently had been every bit as painful as Piper had wanted him to admit. Holding on to each other - just in case - was as comforting to him as it seemed to be to Reyna.

But this, as she’d called it. “I’m not better,” he said. “I’m still not sure how this is done here. Now.” Courtship in Narnia, or even in 1951 when he’d often been bewildered by it, had been much more understandable than the rules by which people came together here in Mount Weather. He didn’t know where to go from there, so instead he said, “What happened?”

Reyna managed a small smile at that. "I think there are as many ways to do this as there are worlds that people come from," she suggested. And then came the question she'd been dreading.

Her hand tightened in his as she sucked her lower lip between her teeth. It had been her worst fears in a way. Turning into a yoga doing soccer mom. There had been good parts, though, like Nico and Anakin. But other parts, well, she squeezed Edmund's hand.

"Went to bed here.. The 31st, I think… and then woke up in a town in Maine. Magic, I'm assuming.. In my head.. I thought I'd always been there. Had no idea I was a demigod. Two weeks of just living this false life… it was… " She trailed off, closing her eyes as she rested her head on the back of the couch.

"Were things… normal.. here? "

Magic. There were moments when Edmund was almost prepared to believe in the caprice of the Pod God. He knew better - he, of all people - but occasionally... Patience and faith. Reyna had returned, after all.

Her question caught him somewhere between laughing and sighing. Normal?

Edmund looked down at their clasped hands. Quietly, he said, "You were gone, and Nico. Jacob and Wanda. Ezio. Mikasa. All of Charlie, except for Sergeant Pentaghast and me. Bethany. Councilors Adaar and Rogers. It was half a day before I could find Lu. Almost two thirds of the Podkru. They reorganized the military, so soldiers and guards were combined. I'm - we're - on night watch tonight." She would remember the last mass disappearance. "Everyone has been pulling extra shifts where we can." He paused for the logical conclusion. "Is everyone back?”

"I think? One minute we're in this small town in Maine, aware of this life and that one and the next moment there's a big group of us outside the blast doors. I found Nico and then I-" She swallowed hard. "I needed to find you."

She shifted to curl up against him, resting her head on his shoulder as she clutched his hand. "I'm sorry.. You know I would never willingly leave you right?" The words were spoken quietly, but were full of emotion. Nonetheless, they both knew that in this world, departures were never willing. She remembered the panic when she couldn't find Edmund in Storybrooke, when the person she'd been married to had just been a normal person from Maine.

Logic was easier than emotions, easier than the ache in her heart. "My stuff? The cloak? The pegasus you made? Is it safe?"

“Never willingly,” he said equally quietly. It was so close to what he’d told Susan after the battle, the promise that neither of them could really make because nothing was truly in their hands.

Drifting into those thoughts left a lump in his throat. He cleared it before attempting to answer. “Annabeth took care of them. We all did. The books, too.”

Reyna bit her lips. The books. She'd forgotten about those. She'd known Nico had stashed them under his bed, but she supposed she become so accustomed to being here that she hadn't expected to ever leave. It was coming up on her one year anniversary, as it was. And Annabeth was from the past. Had she read the books? Would she recognize what the flecks of gold in the cloak meant? Would she want it because it contained Athena's aegis?

She wanted the pegasus back, the small wooden figurine that she hadn't had for long but that she treasured more than almost anything. She seemed to lean a bit more into Edmund. "I never want to forget you. Not for a week, not even for a day."

Edmund squeezed her tightly, too tightly, probably. "I don't want to forget you either. Reyna, I-" He faltered. They'd only known each other for a matter of weeks, and there was no knowing how much more time they would share here. "If we were in Narnia, I would ask permission to court you." His face reddened, but he met her eyes seriously, "I will be at your side as long as the Lion allows me."

The squeeze was grounding, safe, secure. Despite the short time they'd known each other, it felt like longer. And this time there was no battle to distract him from. She wrapped her arms tightly around him.

"You don't need to ask anyone's permission. I like you and I want to be by your side, facing whatever this world throws at us together." His words about courting had caught her by surprise, bringing to mind thoughts of her father, whom she'd killed because of what he'd done to her and Hylla, and her father in Storybrooke, who'd kicked Nico out because he was gay, who'd yelled at the handsome young priest.. No, there would be no asking any father for permission. She was her own woman. In Storybrooke, she'd been nothing more than a housewife.

"We'll make the most out of what time we have."

What time they had was all they could really offer. He kissed her hair, and attempted to lighten the atmosphere slightly. “Yours?” he said, half-smiling. “Though I'm quite certain if I hurt you, I’d have several angry demigods and a Jedi to answer to, if you didn't take it out of me training.” The thought of training sobered him. “Sergeant Pentaghast.”

"Well, you certainly have my permission," she said, turning her head to press her lips against his, lingering in the kiss now that they were no longer in the hallway. "I apologize in advance for any threats Nico or Anakin might levy against you. How about we just take this one day at a time?"

She already loved and lost here and there was a part of her that was screaming this was a horrible idea. That Edmund would leave and she would end up broken hearted again. She knew the pain of having the love interest come back with no memories. That had been worse and she still avoided Faith as much as possible. "And we know I'm going to push you hard in training whether or not I'm kissing you afterwards."

The mention of their sergeant changed the mood. "What about her?" she asked.

“Will she object?” he wondered aloud. Perhaps not, but every sergeant was different. It might be deemed inappropriate for squadmates to be involved. “I’ll ask for a transfer, if necessary.” He didn't want to leave Charlie Squad - he was fond of all of his squadmates - but of the two of them he was the newer member.

Reyna groaned. "I hope not. I mean, I went through that once with Faith and that was worse because she was sergeant." She rested her head on Edmund's shoulder. "It won't change anything, well, no more than how much I tried to protect you in the last battle…"

She sighed. "Should probably tell her anyways."

That was something else they ought to talk about, but one discussion at a time. “I wouldn't want her to think we were hiding something from her,” said Edmund. “Especially after yesterday.”

"Yesterday? What happened yesterday?" Reyna asked, pulling back slightly to study Edmund, hands running over his torso, checking for injuries. Perhaps she was jumping to conclusions, but the mentions of Sergeant Pentaghast and yesterday made her think that perhaps there had been something. Training gone wrong? An accident? A fight in the squad?

He should have known that would worry her. “We were attacked by goblins,” he said, trying for a light tone. He probably ought to have mentioned the battle earlier, but he’d still been half-dazed with seeing her. “I’m all right, but the library didn’t fare so well.”

"Goblins? Edmund- Are you all right? Really?" There had been a battle, and she hadn't been here. Hadn't been able to be by his side. Instead she'd been off in a small town, with four children, a husband and two dogs. As if on cue, the automaton dogs Aurum and Argentum appeared on the floor at her feet. "I.. I should have been here, not…"

She couldn't bring herself to talk about what had happened. She bit her lip and leaned her head against his shoulder.

Edmund bowed his head. “You didn't have any control over that.” He exhaled softly. “You're here now, and I’m all right. The worst I got was a slice to the calf that didn't even keep me in Medical.”

He smirked. “But after seeing her against the goblins, I definitely prefer to be in the sergeant’s good graces.”

"I know, but… I don't like not being in control," she said, a faint chuckle mixed in with the sigh. "And I'm not that fond of magic either."

Reyna fought the urge to tug up Edmund's pants leg and check him over. Maybe it was the fact that she hadn't seen him in over two weeks, maybe it was the fact that she'd spend the last two weeks worrying about four children and her younger siblings. She settled for running her hand through his hair and kissing him again, lingering until she needed to catch her breath.

"We'll tell her.. But can we just enjoy the moment. I thought I'd never see you again."

“That makes two of us,” he said, both to the lack of control and the dislike of magic. He didn’t really mind the worrying. His family had been known to fuss far worse when he found himself injured in battle. The concern warmed him even on the occasions that it irritated.

The kiss was enough to drive most remaining thoughts from his mind for a time. “I think,” he said breathlessly, “I can agree to that.”
