"Yeah, sure," Sam replied, nodding. "No problem. Anything to help out." He hadn't always been that generous with his time, or so eager to help other people out when they were in a tight spot, but when he'd needed help most, someone had been there for him. He never forgot that. If he could do that for someone else, he wanted to. It'd just taken him a while to figure that out.
"See you."
He waved at her, and then Josh when the three year old looked back over. He watched them silently for a moment before turning away to leave. There was something about seeing Josh that didn't sit right with him. Not because it'd gone badly, or because there was anything wrong with the kid, but... Sam couldn't put his finger on it. It was just a feeling he had, deep in his gut, that there was more going on than Maggie was telling him. She had every right to her privacy, of course. They weren't seeing each other anymore, so Sam knew he had no right to know about her business.
But...
"You're seein' things," he mumbled to himself, shaking his head as he walked away.
But he swore that kid looked like the spitting image of a photo his adoptive parents had up on a wall, years ago.
