Sam exhaled in a breathless chuckle, warmth rising to his cheeks as she hugged him and offered her congratulations. It was great, that was true. It was everything he'd wanted and dreamt of since he started taking on more responsibilities around the Rabbit Hole. Maggie had known that before she left. Sam just hadn't expected it to ever happen, back then, so he hadn't really tried to go for it. It was a pipe dream, nothing more. Then it became reality, and Sam couldn't have been happier about it.
He returned the hug like it was still normal for them, even though it wasn't. "Thanks. It was that or I'd start up my own place, and I really didn't want to end up competition..." That and what did he know about starting a restaurant, anyway? He probably would've failed in the first six months. "It's going well." He'd come a long way since he'd come to town, and he wanted to stay at the Rabbit Hole if he could. It was home in a way nowhere else had been.
After a minute, Sam cleared his throat and slowly let go of her, realizing they'd held on longer than they probably should have. "So, uh." He smiled at her, but it was strained and awkward. "You came back to town on your own? No boyfriend?"
