Sam smiled easily and thought about how 'demanding' was par for the course with most of the toddlers he'd run into. Maggie was a tough cookie, too. Any kid of hers would have to inherit some of that, since she seemed to get it from her own father. If Josh hadn't been right there, Sam might've made a comment about Josh getting his easy-going nature from his dad -- but since he was, Sam bit back the thought. He didn't know anything about that situation, or what Josh himself knew. The last thing he wanted was to stir up something bad in front of the kid.
Josh's comment made Sam laugh. "You bet I do," he answered with a mischievous grin, just because he knew it'd make the boy smile.
When Josh ran off again, leaving them alone, it gave Sam the chance to ask her more about her situation, if he wanted to. He hadn't thought much about it in detail before, but everything had been a whirlwind since she got back. Seeing the boy now, Sam couldn't help wondering about where he came from. Had she been with someone else? The thought didn't sit well with him, knowing how close they'd been before she left. But the timing was such that it couldn't have happened after, right? "Hey, no problem," Sam replied with a shrug. "He looks like he's having more fun over there, anyway." It was true. Sam hadn't really been prepared to meet a three year old, so he hadn't brought anything to keep his interest. "I'm sure your parents don't mind. You've been gone... they're probably just glad to have you two back around here instead of off on your own."
