Games are by their very nature a little odd and pointless in the grand scheme of things. They're fun, though.
When I was a lad in Edinburgh, rather than an egg hunt we used to have an egg roll. They'd boil the eggs and wrap them with onion skins to make them look gold, and then the children would roll them down the hill at Arthur's Seat. The winner was whoever's egg rolled the farthest. They used to carefully pick up all the egg shells, afterward - there was an old superstition that if you left the egg shells out, witches would use them as boats. I always had a bit of a laugh at that, imagining the tiny little witches that could float around in egg shells.
