Jacob / Ed
She'd had him arrested by the next time we came, all four together. We found his house torn apart and a notice from her secret police.
Any earlier, and she couldn't have gotten all of us. There was a prophecy. I didn't know about it then, and I doubt it would have made a difference. I wasn't keen on sharing. Four thrones at the castle of Caer Paravel would be filled by four humans - two Sons of Adam and two Daughters of Eve is what they called us - and she would be defeated.
It wasn't as soon as it could have been. I told myself the things Tumnus had told Lucy were lies, like the queen had said, but I could see I wouldn't convince the others of that. Given a choice between me and Lu, Peter and Susan would usually side with Lucy every time, but they were already afraid she was going a bit off. They believed me when I said we'd just been playing pretend about Lu's magic forest, although Peter looked like he wanted to throttle me for encouraging her. It kept me from having to explain about the witch, though. When we did all get through and he realized I'd lied, he stopped speaking to me altogether.
That's when we found Tumnus's house. I could have said something then, or when Mr. Beaver met us to explain about the prophecies, that Aslan was returning to Narnia to the Stone Table, that he would end the winter and destroy the witch. I don't know if it was guilt or the enchantment or both, but I hated everything they said about him. I hoped she'd find a way to turn him to stone. They were all intent on meeting him, by then, though, so I slipped out of the Beavers' home and followed the directions she'd given me.
Aslan I told her where they were and where they were going. And whatever stories I'd been telling myself, I knew better because when she ordered her wolves to kill them all, I didn't blink.
