Charlie, if he was honest, wasn’t really the type of person who found himself in bed with the same woman more than once or twice. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to be with the same person multiple times or because he wanted to have multiple one night stands. It was simply that he avoided relationships and dating all together. His intimate entanglements were always short lived. He had tried dating, briefly, when he was in Hogwarts and once again when he first moved to Romania. In Hogwarts, his attention had been dictated to his school work and Quidditch. Any romance was left as a third or fourth level of concern. And in Romania his work was always his top priority. For a lot of people, that just wasn’t what they wanted, and that was fine with Charlie. He didn’t hold it against anyone. If people wanted someone who was going to give them their full attention, above anyone else, that was fine.
It was just that Charlie wasn’t willing to do so; thus making him a bad choice for anyone who really was striving for romance.
He felt as though he was always open about his intentions. He made it clear he wasn’t looking for a relationship. Mostly everyone he ever was with now knew that going in. And most of the time, they were just passing through Romania as tourists. They’d have a ball and part ways the following morning. Sometimes they would be around for a couple weeks and the tryst would linger for that period of time. Or sometimes he’d meet a local and they’d catch up every few months. But it was always casual and always clear. He had no desire to hurt anyone.
This wasn’t, of course, possible with Mount Weather. People didn’t pass through this area on their way to somewhere else. People didn’t seek this out as a vacation spot. No. They were all confined here, more or less, and anyone he was intimate with was going to be just a few doors away. He’d have to see them no matter what happened. So, if they misunderstood or it hadn’t been pleasant, his chances of running into them later in the future needed to be considered.
Which was why he hadn’t been mingling much with anyone in Mount Weather. There had been Emmeline, whom he had been actively pursuing, but even that hadn’t gotten terribly far. She was a friend, one of which he greatly missed, but he couldn’t say how much of his sadness at her departure was because of her or combined sadness that was still reeling from the void Tonks left inside him.
Rose, as it were, had been an unintentional surprise. The previous month had been stressful, with Charlie’s emotions always at work, leaving him feeling exhausted nearly every day. After all of the attention with the dragon, he had found her company comforting, though initially only as a friend. When the pair had gotten together for drinks, a few days after the dragon had been slain, it wasn’t long into the evening when he found himself pulling her into his arms.
And he had been with her as often as he could every night since.
It wasn’t a relationship. He didn’t know what it was. Even before they had begun their sexual relationship, he had considered her one of the people he liked most at Mount Weather, having worked by her side since her arrival. If you were to ask him, at this moment, he’d still maintain calling her a good friend, even if they had progressed into something else that he couldn’t quite label.
Laying back in her bed, having refused to ever take her back to his room (since his baby brother slept in the bed beside him), he was humming softly as his head was tilted to the side so his forehead could rest against hers. He had an arm around her form, brought up so his hand could gently play with the ends of her hair as they laid together.
