Rogue was standing in the hall in front of Alex's door, bouncing from foot to foot. The floor was cold, and she wasn't in socks, or even in her slippers. She was in her pajamas--a tank top and a pair of jogging shorts, very thin material--and a thin, terry cloth robe. The robe was an afterthought. If she was going to go running around the school in her pajamas, she at least wanted a robe. And as she stood in front of his door, she felt rather silly. She'd had a terrible nightmare, and didn't want to be alone. Honestly, she could have knocked on Kitty's door, or Jubilee's door, or even Bobby's door. But she chose Alex's door. Mostly because she loved him. She knocked gently, feeling bad for waking him for something so silly.
Alex got directly out of bed, he was in a deep sleep and was operating autonomously. The door opened slowly and he peeked out, standing there in his dark silk boxers. "Hey... is everything alright? What are you doing up?" He stepped back to invite her in. The bouncing made him think she was anxious about something and he was more then interested in helping. Rogue was his closest friend, probably of anyone in his life. Once she was in he shut the door and moved back to his bed. If he didn't absorb and constantly radiate heat he'd probably be shivering himself to death.
Rogue opened her mouth to speak. It wasn't to gape, really. She gave him a soft nod, still dancing from foot to foot in the hardwood hallway. "Ah had a nightmare. Did Ah wake ya?" She asked, really hoping that she wasn't bothering him as she passed through the doorway and looked around the very dark room.
He laughed a little "You did but it's fine. You can wake me up any time you want." With her in he moved to the dresser and actually pulled out his silk gloves. He put them on wordlessly as he climbed back into be. He wanted to get in the habit of wearing them around her so they wouldn't have to worry as much. He also silently scooted to the far side of his bed, up against the wall, figuring she'd want to sit at least but he knew when someone came in from a nightmare they didn't want to go back to their own bed.
"All right." Rogue moved in the general direction of the bed. It was hard to find once the door was closed, but somehow she managed. She was rather happy the darkness that fell when the door closed, since she was blushing so badly at him pulling the gloves from his drawer. It was such a kind gesture. "Ah'm just a bit... beside mahself." She said, sitting down on the edge of the bed. It was cold.
"Because of the nightmare? Want to talk about what happened in it or just try to get back to sleep." His hand explored across the top of the bed until he found her to rub her back comfortingly. He could feel her shivering from the cold and rubbed a bit faster to try and warm her up too, since she was clearly still to nervous to get into his bed, despite having come to his room in the middle of the night.
"Sleep, probably." Rogue said, very nervous, indeed, to climb into his bed. She didn't want so much of her bare skin to be so close to so much of his bare skin. But his touch was really helping. She leaned in a little, then finally gave in and laid down next to him, staying on top of the covers.
Alex pushed a blanket over her, since it was winter and would get cold, though he left a sheet between them and up high for safety. He felt odd wearing the long gloves but Rogue had to all the time so he couldn't complain. He nestled in behind her once she was settled, though he was still very careful. "Let me know if you want to talk." He said, still sounding groggy and preparing to fall back asleep if she didn't say anything further on it.
The blankets were very warm. She turned a little to lay on her back and stare up at the ceiling, folding her arms across her chest. "Okay." She waited for a moment, probably longer than she should have, then added, "It was really a stupid dream."
"Hmm?" He wasn't quite asleep yet and she pulled him back to being awake as she spoke. He rested a hand on her stomach, through the sheets which were just pushed around and folded in on themselves. "What was it about?"
"Giant Spiders." Rogue confessed. She would have felt really embarrassed confessing this to anyone else. "But it wasn't just the spiders that were frightenin'. It was the feelin'... ya know? Ah just felt scared. Frightened ta death."
He smirked a bit and nodded "I understand. I wouldn't exactly want to rumble with a giant spider even without the intense nightmare feelings." Alex rubbed Rogue's stomach softly and comfortingly.
Rogue brought her hand down to rest on top of his. It wasn't that she disliked the rubbing, she just wanted to feel connected to him--to someone--to anyone. Especially someone she cared for so deeply. "It killed me in th' end. Ah couldn't fight it any longer."
"Well if it comes back I bet the two of us can get it." He smiled to her sweetly, keeping his hand still under hers gladly. He was very glad that she came to him so he could be with her. "We're both totally awesome." He said in his best surfer voice to be funny.
Rogue laughed at his surfer voice. It was hilarious. She turned to look at him, barely making out his outline in the darkened room. "Thanks. Fer everythin'." She said, very gently and genuinely.
"It's my pleasure." He was just as genuine. He kept his hand on her so she'd know that he was there and where he was. Because of the danger of this he managed to be extremely still so that she could lay how she wanted without having to worry about getting him with her powers.
The sheet between them was a definite plus. Rogue reached her free hand up and tugged it up, so if she wanted to curl up against him, she could. And then she decided to. She turned onto her side, forcing his hand up and over her hip, and wrapped an arm across his chest in a soft hug/embrace.
Alex wrapped his arm around her, almost rolling her up in the sheet as he did to keep it between them. He hugged her close a bit, though was careful that his chest didn't press to her face. Once they took a moment to settle and get the sheet and everything where it needed to be he started to drift off again slowly, glad to have her there.
Rogue closed her eyes and settled down, letting her breathing slow. She found herself drifting off to sleep cuddled up in his arms.
The morning came and Alex had stayed exactly as still as necessary to sleep next to Rogue. His joins almost always ached so that didn't bother him any more then usual, which he was accustomed to. That being the case he slept well past sunrise, as long as his partner in crime managed to stay still he was getting plenty of rest. He found her presence comforting.
Rogue stirred when she felt the sunshine hit her face. She'd moved only a little in her sleep, still finding herself curled up against him in the morning. Her head lifted, and her hair was slightly messy. "Mornin'..." she said, sleepily, looking around the room and trying to remember where she was.
"Morning." He said in her groggy voice, running his hand up and down her side softly. "Sleep better?" He finally opened his eyes and looked at her with a smile, messy hair of hers and all.
"Yeah." Rogue said, lifting her hand to rub at one of her eyes. She could barely remember what happened last night. It came flooding back in, though, as she heard his voice. "...you?"
He nodded and watched her gladly. "I slept great. It was awesome with you here." He said encouragingly, not wanting her to feel awkward or unwelcome. He had really enjoyed sleeping next to her and wanted it to show.
"That's great." Rogue blushed a little, sitting up against the pillows. She didn't want to get up. She didn't want to get out of the bed--so warm and soft. And she didn't want to think about what someone else might think if they saw her coming out of his room so early in the morning--in her pajamas.
Alex's mind didn't race so much. He smiled, enjoyed being in the soft, warm bed, and the sight of Rogue in the pajamas. Seeing her blush just made him smile more. "Headed somewhere?"
"No." Rogue said, sheepishly. "No, Ah just... Ah dun' wanna get up." She said, breaking into a grin and snuggling back down. What would people think?
Alex snuggled back gladly "Me either." He had no qualms about this or even about people finding out. It's honestly not like they can be accused of anything happening or even about giving the idea it did.
"How long do ya think we can hide away in here?" She asked, keeping the sheet up between them as she burrowed in. She felt warm and safe. Another yawn escaped her, and she stretched out her entire body from her forehead to her toes. Her arms stretched up and over her head and her back arched. Gosh, it felt good.
"I'd wish for all day." He laughed a bit as she burrowed in and took her waist to help guide her so she didn't kick him or any such thing. He laughed again at the very cute full body stretch and yawn, finding her quite adorable as usual.
"All day it is." Rogue said, sleepily. She was awake now, though. She rolled onto her back, still under the covers, and lifted her arms to rest up and over her head.
Alex stayed close, though not too close now that her arms weren't covered. He actually was able to rummage up his remote from the nightstand without bumping her skin. He turned the TV on to 'A Daily Show' since it was on in the morning. He settled back in to lay with her as they watched and enjoyed the day.
