Jay hefted her suitcase up to lay on her bed upon entering the room, then backed away as she overtook unpacking. He already knew from that face in the hall that whatever kept her from the dance wasn't good.
"Oh, Paige.." It was a role reversal. It wasn't that long ago that Paige was the one talking him into thinking things would be okay -- and in thus far, she'd been right. "Y'ain't got to hide an' all that. Y'all were the one who told me all this mutant stuff was a'right to show here." Sidestepping back towards the suitcase, he put himself between it and her so she'd have to stop. "'Sides, he ain't gonna be mean 'bout yer huskin'. Ah mean, Ah ain't been here long an' even Ah've seen weirder stuff than that." So maybe Jay wasn't as eloquent with advice as his sister was.
"He like ya, right? An' he's fared dealin' with Sam 'bout that.. so he must like ya alot."
