Kirley didn't like having to wait to see his daughter. Partly, it was simple impatience on his part, and the knowledge that his time was already limited. The rest was leftover bitterness--if he and Eve had been able to work things out, he would be able to see her every minute he was home. But he didn't dare complain, as he was grateful to have what he did.
