He stopped dead on his tracks when he heard her sniff. He inwardly cursed thinking that he hurt her or said something that made her cry. He stiffly looked at her and pursed his lips when tears fell down her eyes and she was bawling about her father and her mother and about herself.
He felt his heart strings tugged and it felt like it sank too. He sofly put his mug down and carefully took hers from her hands. Her cocoa would taste salty now.
Actually he was afraid of this because he knew nothing about consoling, he thought that maybe making her laugh is the easiest solution so he did that but he was reminded that not everything can be eased by a hearty chuckle here and there so he let her pour out every bitterness from her.
He shushed her and rubbed her back as if to console her, "Don't say that, if it weren't for them you wouldn't even be here." He bit his lips but then thought that it was safe to continue, "Your mother would never throw you out, I'm sure she cares for you." He decided to tackle the last subject since he knew not what to say about the relationship between her parents.
